Bo Wallace surprised me this year, how he turns the ball over that many times and still play like he does escapes me. Also, Russell's inability to even compete in big games baffled me. The dude is supposed to be the best QB to touch True Maroon and white and the guy lays golden eggs in every big game. At least Relf won the Egg Bowl.

The 2 previous seasons I thought all you guys needed was some receivers. I don't know how many times I saw Relf hit receivers in the chest on critical downs and see them drop the balls costing you games. Relf's gone so I figure Russell will step up... he's got a little more touch/accuracy... he has his moments but just not consistent enough that I saw.

In a strange twist, (from me at least) Pat Dye is now saying he wanted Kirby Smart. Are the powers that be, slowly starting to push him out?

I like Russell and his arm, he just doesn't fit Mullen's system.
Interesting. He didn't want 10 Sabans but he wants 1 Smart?

Something doesn't sound right... the truth will come out in a few days. At least y'all didn't include Charles Barkley in the decision process. Heard he wanted Petrino.

The "Kirby Smart turned down the job" story got a little more traction this afternoon... I suspect we'll hear a little more, but then it'll die down.

Really wish there was a way to confirm.

This, the other side is stating "was never offered the job". My only take is these couple of points. If he wasn't interested, why did he bother to interview? And Gogue stated from the very beginning he wanted a "headcoach with experience" so, why was he ask to interview in the first place. Also, you knew this was gonna have the everlasting shit spun out of it anyway it went down.

Edit: Just found this, an excerpt from a Kevin Scarbinsky piece:

Those characteristics may have helped Smart with Dye, but they hurt him with the Auburn search committee. Smart asked for things during his interview that Auburn wasn’t willing to give him, according to people close to the process.

His demands included full disclosure of the state of the NCAA’s current look-see at the Auburn program, full control of hiring and firing staffers and the opportunity to coordinate the Alabama defense in the BCS Championship Game against Notre Dame.

Smart’s demands are perfectly understandable. So is Auburn’s unwillingness to grant them, which is part of the reason Auburn didn’t offer Smart the job and turned toward Malzahn.

I forgot that your "rivalry" was so one sided. No wonder they have such an inferiority complex.

What you said about Gogue wanting a head coach w/ coaching experience is interesting, and has confused me. I assumed they'd go after a coach with experience, but instead, it came down to a DC w/ no head coaching experience and a coach with a single year of HC experience. IMO, several of the rumored candidates would have been better (Petrino, Strong).

I'm surprised that every coach didn't demand the exact same things that Smart did. If you're walking into the situation, OF COURSE you want to do so with open eyes, so OF COURSE you want to know what the NCAA could drop on your head.

Full control of hiring and firing is something he learned from Saban, and it's something that works. It's silly for any program (that wants to succeed) not to give that to a head coach.

I guess I do understand auburn's desire for him to start right away and not coach in the NC game... I'm really glad neither side budged on that.

Agree, so it seems it business as usual down on the Plains. The Dye thing (coming out in support of Smart, even after the fact) still has me puzzled.

He's a cancer to the auburn program. I'm really glad for Kirby that he didn't get/take the job if he was going to labeled a "Dye guy," b/c that's not something you want.

Pat Dye doesn't even want to be a Pat Dye guy. It's time he, and Jacobs take a walk down retirement road. Those two do nothing but hurt my tigers program.

I'll go so far as to wonder if it was a total deflection, "See, I wanted KSmart, Auburn didn't hire him, see, I'm not in control here".

I'm not going to pretend to understand the politics at AU but I kinda took Dye's quote as him not sold on Malzahn and he wants the first quote saying he wanted Kirby so if Malzahn doesn't work out he'll be able to say, "I told you who I wanted..."
