Just a thought if you haven't done so yet. Offer the girl some kind of reward for doing the right thing. Even something as simple as a gift card. Just a gesture. No one gets rewarded for doing the right thing these days.
I got a bunch of stuff stolen from my truck last summer. Never saw any of it again and the cops have no leads. I'm happy you have some resolution. I now have renters insurance.

That article was written before this incident, so it wasn't my address...but you're right. I wouldn't want my address put out there after I had stuff stolen, kinda tells other theives its an easy target. I'm going to take some a precautions tho and set up some things so its not so easy next time. I'd love to catch the bastards in the act.

I'm gonna do this. We woulda been up shits creek without her. She was shakin in her boots the whole time, and she told the cops she didn't want her name involved...but guess what..if you run with these kinds of people, you're gonna get caught up in it. The cops told her they need the names for the investigation, and she caved

yes she gave the names of the guys she was riding around with, and also the guy that probably orchestrated the whole thing (see the article I posted). Didn't know there was a difference between being robbed and burglary - good to know

Yeah, robbery is done by force or fear. Burglary is entering a premise with the intent to commit a crime, such as Grand Theft (The Theft of your Quad).

He won't get much time, but at least you recovered most of your things.

Just an update over the past day or so. Apparently a group of guys (who also had stuff stolen by this guy) went and found him on Monday night and beat the livin shit out of him. Last I heard he was in shock trauma at the hospital. There is now a warrant out for his arrest, so id imagine that the cops will be waiting for him when he gets released from the hospital.

On another note, the state police called me yesterday and said I could come by the barracks and pick up my 4wheeler. I went there after work and they proceeded to tell me that I had to pay $150 in towing and storage fees before they would release it to me. WTF!! Not only that, I have to go pay the towing company which is located 30 mins away to pay it, and then come back with proof of payment. They said I could file for restitution once they make an arrest and it goes to trial.

Anybody have any experience with restitution? From what I've heard, they usually find a way around it, so any tips or ideas ro maximize my chances of getting my money back would be appreciated. I'm thankful that I'll be getting my bike back, but damn! Sucks when the victim has to go thru this shit, definitely adds insult to injury.

You should get restitution once court finds him guilty. No worries. Just pay all of that first then submit the receipts.

This sort of thread kinda worries. I to live pretty much in the what like to call BFE. And to be honest I don't lock my truck ever when I'm home or even the house for that matter. Family's been living on this land for damn near 90 years now. But this kind o stuff makes me uneasy. I feel like nowhere is secure anymore. We keep the key in the tractor. The boat key is in the boat. Just irritating.

If the perp is in shock trauma, you will NEVER get your money...on the other hand, he might never walk, or work again and be a lifetime ward of the state.

Our little holler is pretty much off limits to folks, a former neighbor is doing life for murdering a couple folks who were where they shouldn't of been and word gets around.

Can't say I'm crying a tear over that. You reap what you sow.

As far as restitution, you could sue but I doubt you ever see a dime from him - assuming he can spell his name after the beat-down.

I wouldn't be that worried about the money.
3 ways this could have went:
Either you pay it now and get the 4 wheeler back, it's never recovered and you pay for a new one out of your own pocket, or you have insurance with a deductible that must be paid to get a new 4 wheeler.

Any option will ultimately cost you money in the end. You got the cheapest option.
