Try Chevy! Right when I paid off my Colorado at 78K it needed $5000 of engine work!

The engine and transmission are good, the rest of it still has a lot to be desired in my opinion. Case in point, that stupid fukin carrier bearing. I'd love to know who's dumb ass idea that was...

Also, note to Toyota, put neverseize or grease on your shit from the factory!

    Sorry, sore subject...

    The Colorado was a POS! I had a 1500 and that 5.3L engine was/is a good engine.

Damn, just re-read my last posts and I sound like I'm completely miserable with my Tacoma...

Certainly not the case. This site just seems full of Toyota fan boys who think they're the greatest thing since sliced bread. I'm more of the opinion that every make has their quirks and they're actually on a more level playing field as far as build quality (with some exceptions of course). If you go to a Chevy forum, you'll find the same discussions, just with Chevy in the title rather than Toyota. They think they're the best and would never dream of owning a Toyota. People just seem to have better luck with certain brands for whatever reason so might as well drive what you like.

I think cars pre 200x were generally made better than new ones. My first car was a 92 camry and I beat the ever loving shit out of it. I had cheap ass american racing rims, big system, neon lights everywhere, a fart can exhaust, and loaded it up with my buddies all the time. We would fly around everywhere and drift corners in the snow. That camry never had any problems until part of the tranny let go (which was due to a cracked reservoir that didnt drain the area that had the dipstick). MY dad gave the car to a family friend who worked at a dealer, he replaced the ring gear or something in the tranny and the car ran around florida for another 10 years. I think that guys grand kids still have the car somewhere or maybe it finally died in an accident. After that I had a 2000 eclipse which had a system and underbody neons (WTF was wrong with me as a kid) and that had no problems. I traded it in on my Tacoma because it started to shake around 40 mph which I found out was a TSB on the automatic transmission computer.

I think I might be a toyota fan boy. My dad was a chevy guy until 1991 when he bought a 1992 Camry, since then every brand new car him or my mom have purchased has been a toyota. None of the cars has had a major problem. Maybe our family has good luck with them. We have had the 92 camry, a 2000 solara, a 2001 4runner, and they now have a 2010 Venza and a 2011 Camy.

Aside from swim lessons, the thing has had no issues that weren't caused by me.

OH I know one thing; my lumbar support switch wouldn't work for a second yesterday. My heart stopped and all my dreams went out the window. As I was pulling into the dealership to trade it in, it started working again.

This is a definite, The Lexus was a prime example only two years old but the quality was far off on the newer one

I've gotten it done before. If it's documented before the warranty is up and the dealership can't fix the problem, they still have to fix it. It's not that hard of a sell actually. If the radio has been replaced 3 times, that means they never fixed the problem. I'd be willing I could win that argument with a service manager or through Toyota Customer Service. Warranties are not that cut and dry, they're still a service industry and they want you to come back.

I wouldn't consider myself a fanboy but I am happy with mine. Sure I would have liked a cheaper price tag. I would have liked heated mirrors  and rear speakers but I can and will do that myself and when its done it will be my way and right

Yeah the part that gets me is the service mgr told me $3000 for a new head. Then when I researched and found a TSB on it he said he'd never seen a head go on them so he didn't know. It needed a cam and timing chain which he said was all related but couldn't comp them, "you pay me and GM will refund you the $$ for that"..well GM said no that's now how it is done but because I didn't do it the right way I'm SOL. Yet 2 months later it was "I've seen a lot of these go over the years and I've never had to replace other parts so your cam and timing chain failure is wear and tear" from the same guy who had never seen a head fail on the trucks.

I guess I'm lucky, 4 1/2 years my Tacoma hasn't need any work done to it. Other than changing the oil, topping off the windshield washer and blinker fluid, it's been fine.

GM does some weird stuff. I had my gauge cluster go out on me. I would be going 50 or 60 and it would read 10 MPH. It cost me $350 to replace. I found a bunch of complaints online but there was no TSB or warranty info on it. Fast forward 2.5 years, after I traded it in on my Tacoma, I get a letter from GM saying they'll reimburse me for the work. I dug out the old credit card receipt and they cut me a check for the work. I was beyond shocked.
