Yes, you don't want the scope mounted at all on the quad rail. The rail itself isn't stable and it will move causing constant shifts in poa/poi. It should only be mounted on the upper which is why cantilever mounts work so well on AR15s.

It's a good way to get a pipe cleaner stuck in your self-cleaning gas tube.

A buddy of mine just completed the Costa Lusdus 308 heavy battle rifle class and not one 716 made it through the class without issues. A couple Armalites and DPMSs had issues too. None of the KACs, OBRs, or REPRs failed. Lesson learned if you do an AR10 spend the money for a good one.

i was afraid of that. even though its a free float hand guard? shouldn't that stay secure, or is it still not secure enough?

what about the corrosion on the barrel tip?

I looked at .308s also, but have decided to go 6.8spc. Anyone have any experience with Bison Armory? I'm considering the Recon 18".

The reason there are no good .308 ARs is because there is no real standard. Companies left to their own devices to develop a product are going to make things "good enough" not "as good as they need to be". If I was set on a .308, I'd get a FAL. But if you're getting it to shoot you better check on ammo prices.

For a 6.8, I don't trust anyone other than Noveske. YMMV

Yes, putting pipe cleaners in gas tubes is a great way to get pipe cleaners stuck in gas tube. I know it's hard for a lot of guy's whos first adult instruction came from their DI/DS, but those guys only know what someone else told them to know, and a lot of that shit was wrong.

Don't mount optics to handguards. Not even free-float handguards. Mount it to the upper. I wasn't tracking what kind of optic we are talking about, or how on earth it's getting in the way of a proper charging handle technique, or how you're getting proper eye relief with a scope mounted so that it interferes with an improper technique, but get a cantilever mount.

Don't worry about the green shit.

What about Wilson combat for 6.8 and daniel defense? Seeing a lot of 6.8 companies now.

    I would definitely go with a m1a for a .308

I forgot about DD, they'd get my vote as well. I wouldn't buy any rifle from Wilson.

I wouldn't. The only real maker of M1A-style guns now is Springfield and it's been a damn long time since I saw one of their M1As run for any length of time without problems.

DSA makes a current-product FAL that is better than the original by many accounts. That would get my vote for a .308 semi-auto, or POSSIBLY a SCAR-H.

Check out www.68forums.com.. A highly recommended company to do a 6.8 SPC build is AR Performance. He's been in the 6.8 scene since it started and knows his stuff. Bison Armory puts out a good product too. But check out AR Performance. Nice stuff and reasonable.

I'm sure someone will tell him I posted this, and he'll show up here to yell at me, but I wouldn't buy so much as a takedown pin from ARP.

Gun owners in general are not shooters. Owners of guns that shoot expensive ammo shoot even less. There are obviously exceptions, but these are generalities. So I take with a grain of salt, a grain of salt the size of the moon, anything I hear anyone say with regards to firearms selection and what constitutes "good". If they can't qualify their opinion, I put it in the circular file where it belongs. There is just too much noise on the intardwebs drowning out good signal, and too many people looking to validate foregone conclusions than actually seeking out solid advice and an understanding of the background of the person giving it.

Myself, I have fired 4k+ rounds of 5.56 this year through ARs, and that's an extremely light year for me. I have supervised ~200k rounds fired by others at matches and drills over the years that I have supervised or ran, and been present for another who knows how many rounds at classes where I've been a student. These are stupid small numbers compared to people that do this for a living, but pretty high for those that don't. I don't see much in the way of 6.8, but I trust the people that I trust based on what I've seen out of their other offerings. If I was buying a 6.8 (and I still can't figure out why I would), it'd be a Noveske.

Or the LMT. I have not heard or read one bad thing about LMT yet. I have the LMT 5.56 and have had no problems. Got turned onto them years ago and havent looked back.

Although I dont travel in the large quantity shooter category you do.

    Any thoughts?

I do shoot thousands upon thousands if rounds in a year both rifle and pistol and I also have first Han experience with ar15performance. They are quality uppers with a very strong following. However it doesn't matter anymore because Harrison is only making parts and not building uppers anymore. I would buy ARP stuff as well as Noveske. I only have second hand accounts of Bens stuff at bison but his customers seem just as happy as well. Just ensure you're buying the right specs if you go a different route.

Thanks Brett. Yeah, I'm liking Ben's pricing and I'm a total AR newb so I really think his setup will serve my purposes well. It'll be a pretty low volume shooter/hunter. I'd love to go Noveske from everything I've read. We'll see how generous my "jelly of the month club " is this year;)

I use the 6.8 platform as a hunter as well. So if you need any reload data or anything else similar let me know. Btw I'm one of the guys Harrison of ARP named as his replacement builder. Yet i still backed Ben. We are a close knit group on the 68forums.
