Do you have airbags installed or any additional work done to assist with towing? I am looking into getting a Cobalt 232WSS and was curious to see how you did towing this boat. Whats the total weight of this rig and all? Any problems getting in and out of the ramp.

I have Timbrens. 6000 lbs loaded. I put in at Lake Cumberland and those ramps are steep! With the ramp and hill at 13% grade I pull it about 1/4 mile. It does good, backing down the ramp is slow though, due to the weight. It want to drag the front. But I had a friends yukon do it once for me and it stopped on the hill and couldn't get it moving again, had to back down the hill and get a run at it :(

Not to hijack the thread, but how do the Timbrens affect the ride of your truck when you are not towing?

I do not have Timbrens; but from what I understand they only come into effect when you hit a bump really hard or do something that would normally bottom out the truck. In these situations they absorb the shock and smooth it out a little.

When I was shopping for towing upgrades I was looking at Timbrens and ended up getting a really good deal on some Firestone Air Bags. I'm happy I went with the air bags because the overall ride has been smoothed out a lot. The only time I have a complaint is when I forget to air down after towing; then it rides more like a 3/4 ton then a light truck. Between the two I would go with the air bags again.

Thanks! I was considering FireStone air bags, only heard good things about them thus far. Plus, they are quite simple to install. Personally, I think all Toyotas are underrated for towing though I may be wrong.

Had some stuff in the bed too, looks to be sagging pretty good, but it never hit the bumpstops. Non-TSB pack with a Toytec AAL.

This thread is so HUGE :)

Can anyone tell me if there is much difference in the towing between the 1st gen and a 2nd gen?

I have a 2001 V6 Manual Tacoma with an add-a-leaf in the rear.

The trailer is a Carson Titan 16ft with torsion bars, and I believe it weighs 3,400 dry.

I'm a little nervous about hills and the wind resistance.

Anyone have any input? I just bought an electric brake set up as well.

    Thanks!
