6 on a stick FTW! Auto lovers flame on... I get bored in autos, maybe it's my OCD also, I don't like having something choose what gear I should be in especially in the mtns.

I am not an expert but to be honest I haven't really heard anything about either have any crazy issues. Still I vote auto because that's what I have and have had zero issues with it at this point. So there ya go lol :)

The biggest reasons I didnt get the auto was because maintenance on it is pretty hard to do yourself and the damn thing doesnt have a dipstick like it should. I like to be able to check my trans fluid level and not having a dipstick is B.S.

Yeah I actually just posted somewhere else asking which was easier and how much it would cost to have it done. Yeah this is the first vehicle that I have owned that doesn't have a transmission dipstick so I have no clue how to maintain it. I read the how to sticky on changing the fluid but I just don't trust myself with it. Kind of a pain in the ass :/

In off road applications, especially sand or snow an auto keeps the momentum going.Downshifting on a dune with a manual is just asking for trouble.

I heard the auto was designed for the 4.7. V8 so it's a little beefier.

This debate will go on and on forever. Each person has their personal likes and dislikes of each type of transmission. I have been building and servicing transmissions for almost 20 years now, and I see both types of people. It really is mostly a matter of personal preference. If they both didn't have their fans, then Toyota (and the other manufacturers) wouldn't build both. Personally for me it depends on the vehicle. My Tacoma? I prefer my 5 speed manual. I also have owned a 2006 Chrysler Town & Country, and loved the automatic. I have had cars and trucks, and each one had it's purpose, and transmission option.

but yeah. the auto (5 speed) is a great tranny - many fewer problems than the manual (6 speed) in this particular truck.

Foglights are for fog, not oncoming traffic!
For the majority of mall crawlers on this site, the auto makes more sense.
Most people on this site lack the skill or willingness to live with a manual every day.
If you actually plan to use it as a truck, IE carry a load or tow up real mountains, a stock automatic is a liability.
You cannot control what ratio you are in or manage heat in an automatic.
In re clutches, only excessive slippage(operator error) will kill a clutch.
