i bet it would be closer to 70 true speed since 285s are a bit smaller then. I don't like the thought of 3k rpm cruiseing..but if your okay with it then go for it! haha

here is kinda a comparision of size.

    Tony's with 285/75r16
    [IMG]

    Mine with 33x12.5r15s
    [IMG]

biggest difference i can see is width but there is a slight height difference as well.

And lots of people do run 4.88s and 33s and are quite happy with it so i don't see how you won't be. Im just gonna try something a little different with the SC, 4.88s, 35s combo i guess :D haha

I just ran some numbers in a calculator and it looks like 305/75/16 with 4.56's is almost dead on stock at 75 mph, but you have to think about the fact that you are now running a heavier tire so it still isn't back to stock really. 4.88's will give you a higher rpm than stock, and will compensate a little more for the heavier tires.

Jace... since you have the 3.4 and R150F combo (like Monte, actually) I think you'll want keep the diff ratio a bit on the high side compared to other Tacomas with the same sized tire. You've got the power with the 3.4 and much shorter gears in the tranny with the manual vs an automatic. (Of which I am very jealous....) I've got a wimpy 2.80 1st gear when you have a 3.83 1st! Even your 5th gear (0.84) is shorter than my 4th gear (0.71).

I don't know what calc you guys are using, but when I ran the numbers on this guy: http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html it looks like 4.56s on 285s will bring you almost exactly back to stock (2,700rpm at 70mph), while 4.88s will put you a bit over 2,900rpm at 70. As for 305s... You're talking about 305/70R16s or 305/65R17s right? Because a 285/75R16 and 305/70R16 are pretty much the same height.... The numbers should be the same.

I love my 4.10s and 33s, I floored my 1st gear today and was shocked at the power that my old 3.4 produces!

Hmm yeah I had the elite front plate bumper on my want list but then I thought about my 40 minutes drive twice a day to school and back, and the amount of gas ill be burning at that... I may just make myself some kind of tube bumper idk.. But thats all after my S/C which is next on the list :D

You've got the short 1st gear to thank for that... I bet you'd harness more power from that ol' 3.4 if you regeared to 4.56s though. ;) You've got to determine if it's worth it for you though... May not be worth it to some to dump cash on a regear just to see minimaly better gas milage, power, and clutch wear.
 haha Yeah... I like your choice, man. I think 4.88s is going to be perfect for what you're going to run and use the truck for.

4.56's would be worse for my clutch? How so?

And I was thinking of going with 4.56's but id rather go with a S/C first haha :D

Nah, better for your clutch. I know several guys running 35s and 37s with stock gears and their clutches tend to slip a lot more than normal... Gearing the diffs lower simply makes it easier on the engine/drivetrain to turn the tires. (ie less wear)

:D I agree. I think it's due to the RTT. Kinda helps fill a void that was there last time..
