Word is that Auburn will be running a 4-2-5 defense. I like it. I think it will work well. I'm getting more excited about ole Gus.

I'm not saying that Offense is the only way to go and the only thing to focus on, I just find the trend funny. And you can say it, Mullen has yet to beat any team that is relevent. Yeah he beat UGA, UF, and Michigan, but they were all down on their luck.
Interesting. Wonder how that'll leave the running game open for opponents, especially against Bama. Not sure 2 linebackers would be enough to stop Bama's running game. Then again, I have no clue how good of a D-line and linebackers y'all have.

I saw what happened in 2010, when no one stopped it. I saw what happened when Spurrier came in the SEC and dominated. I see aTm starting that trend. Sometimes, you fight fire with,

Nick Fairly certainly helped stop opponents from scoring. Just because no college defense could ever find an answer for $cam doesn't mean that some defense wasn't playing tough. For the record, our shit defense held him pretty well. And Oregon slowed him too.

Pretty sure Spurrier lost the first SEC championship game because of an Alabama defense. I may be mistaken.

It'll take some time for everyone to get use to it but I think it might be a good fit. The blitz package in a nickle is something I like when they bring the safeties up. My only concern is about the speed of our defense. But you're right....it'll be interesting to see if it will be able to stop a real running game...especially up the middle. BTW....Rhett Lashley just got hired as a OC for Gus. Kids young and has a bright future ahead of him. He's been with Gus, and learning from Gus for a while. It'll be interesting to see how much coaching he actually does with Gus on the field.

Earlier this season, Lou Holtz suggested that Saban should consider retirement b/c at some point, winning is only a relief, while losses are devastating. While I don't like the guy very much, I can understand his point. How can you really enjoy winning when it's the expectation? Monday and Tuesday this week, you would have sworn we LOST the SECC the way callers to radio shows were complaining about the CBS coverage and a few of the calls during the game. (I really dislike some Alabama fans.)

    Anyway, here's the video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=3ChzKZ-wgV4

(Aside: I laughed out loud when Lou put himself in the same category as Saban.)

In an article on al.com today, Terry Saban echoed the old fart's comments..

I hope Saban sticks around for another 5 or 6 years. I hope he's motivated not by having fun or enjoying wins, but by equaling the Bear in championships won (he's halfway there already, and could be one closer next month).

If he's not, and Terry's comments are giving us a peek behind the curtain at the Saban house, then I wouldn't be surprised if he calls it a career after another year or two (or sooner??).

One thing that she said reiterates what her husband has said repeatedly - Tuscaloosa is their last stop. I realize you can't believe any coach when they say they're not taking another job. Saban himself has lied about it a number of times. That's the business. But Saban has been saying for a few years that he's done bouncing around, and his wife seems convinced of the same:

I heard Lou say that and, like you, kinda laughed at him. Then, to make sure I heard correctly, I backed up the program (God I LOVE DVR) and listened again and thought about it. It is true at least to a point. Look at him after a win, even a big win, there no joy in it, no smiles, just relief. Now, by the time the camera guys find him for an interview, he musters up some awarkward grins.

Don't get me wrong, I like Saban and Alabama but I so wanted to see Georgia win and go on to win the National Title. That way I could look at my Carolina fans and say, looks like the chicken curse is still working. The gamecocks beat a team then they go on to win the national title and they can't even win a conference title.

Holtz is a pussy. Saban doesn't feel joy. He just wants to win. All a loss does is motivate him to eat more souls. He'll retire from exhaustion or death, but not lack of joy, otherwise he would have retired before he even started.

Well said. After every win Saban states he is happy for the team, alumni, supporters, the State of Alabama, and all the fans. He means it. I think making other people happy makes him happy.

Oh yeah. Lou Holtz is a pussy

I've seen a different Saban this year... calmer, somewhat laid back, almost a sense of accomplishment. He's been a lot more tolerant of the press and not near as critical of players mistakes. You used to be able to check his pulse by the vein on his forehead. Keep this in perspective, he'll never be accused of being Mark Richt and he's had his moments this season but not as much. I don't know if he's real pleased with the character of his players, that they're overachieving as compared to the talent level (particularly the D), or maybe that he's won 2 of 3 NC's and has a chance at 3 of 4? He doesn't seem as intense away from the field...

He hasn't had too much reason to get worked up until the last few games with the way they steamrolled their way through most of the year. Probably not much reason going forward with only Rudy in his way, either!
