Those hooks are for a child seat. Lots of people remove them, I chose to build a box around them.

I'm not sure how much room is in a single cab, but if you are willing to build a box yourself, contact Mr. Marv from this site. Guy builds sub boxes for everything under the sun. He gave me a bunch of tips and measurements when I built my duel 12" shallow sub box. If anyone knows what will fit, its Marv

Thanks, it was alot of work for a small sub but i am really happy with it. i need the back seats for my dogs so space was limited. i have Boston acoustic sr-60s. I might upgrade though, i think you can get a better speaker for that price. I have always liked how boston acoustics sound but i am not to impressed by these. When i decide to add rear speakers i might swap the fronts for the same brand, whatever that is going to be. Dont get me wrong though the speakers sound great, night and day difference compared to the stock setup.

When you decide to upgrade, let me know. I've been threatening to get rid of the stock speakers for a while now :spy:

How were they to install? Someone sold a set on here a while ago and I couldn't figure out how easily they'd fit in the doors.

The maddening part is I've found a billion enclosures, you'd think one of them would be a custom for the 2nd gen single cab. Nope..everything is for you elitist double cab people haha!

All I'd have to do is bring each one in 3 inches, ideally a little thinner up top as well. I'm trying like crazy to work with what I have for $$ reasons and it seems like it should work with the right box.

Regrettable as it would be, I would go down to 10"s if I had to.

I've talked with him a bit so far. If I have to go that route it probably won't be for a bit, as it is my wife's all over me for dropping the cash on my install.

The woofer was simple, i bought them at crutchfields so they sent me the adapter plate and the wiring harness for free, i still have the wiring harness if you need it because i rewired for my amp. The tweeters were a little tricky, i mounted them with a custom mdf mount, you can buy them at *********, but if you are any good with a jigsaw and a box cutter it isnt to hard. Then you just have to figure out a spot to mount the crossovers, i ziptied them to the door panel behind the armrest. If you are going to stick with the stock headunit i would recomend a nice set of coaxials (then you wouldnt have to deal with tweeters and crossovers) or high sensitivity components.

I won't be adding a subwoofer, I just want to upgrade the overall sound quality. I haven't messed with it yet because I still have the stock head unit and I know a system is really only as good as it's weakest link. I really like the Boston Acoustic speakers but I wouldn't be able to get the most out of them unless I upgrade the head unit and wiring also. I've been spending my money elsewhere on the truck over the years but the sound could use some attention at some point in the future. The OEM sound quality isn't bad enough where it bothers me enough to do something about it.

I am a fan of the Infinties I had them in a couple of my veh. The last one had Polk all around. I need my back seats also so that sub setup would be the way to go plus I am an old man so I don't need the BOOM BOOM BOOM. Any cutting of the cab? I didn't like the fact that the console had to be cut for a sub that I saw on here.

The OEM sound or lack of sound quality kills me. You have to crank it to hear and I had to shut off the headliner speakers

Mine had 6.5's..odd. Oh well it has 6x9's now haha..

You might be okay just using upgraded speakers Billy, but if not I bet a single sub would do just fine..or a powered Bazooka.

Let me know if you go this route, I can give you a hand if you want. MDF at home depot is cheap enough, so its just some time and the tools to rip everything down.

I don't think the OEM speakers are that bad. Certainly not the worst OEMs I've had. I do want to get a little more bass in there. I used to have two 10's in one of my cars. I thought about putting one of them in my truck, but I don't really have the space for a 10 and the amp to power it. I'm thinking of getting a good set of 6" or 6x9"s to replace the factory speakers. I have to be able to crank it up without the fear of blowing the speakers.

Any 6 or 6.5 speaker for the doors needs an adapter. I built mine out of some 1/2MDF I had left over from the sub box build. Still have some left over if you go that route

I've had some pretty crappy OEM systems in the past so, in comparison, the Tacoma's speakers aren't bad. My old Rangers, at speed, you couldn't even hear the radio if the windows were open and I'm not talking highway speed, I'm talking like 45  The Chevy's system was alright. As far as OEM goes, the Tacoma is one of, if not the best base system I've owned (keep in mind I've owned mostly base model vehicles and never had an upgraded system).

My friends in college had nice systems in their cars and I agree, there's no comparison but for me, I don't mind the sound. I don't have those crappy headliner speakers thankfully.

Much appreciated. I'm going to fiddle with it a little this weekend maybe and see what I need. If removing the jack does what I need, I might just do that and call it a day even though I'd rather not.

You dont think OEM is that bad until you change them. I didnt think the speakers were awful till I changed to the deck, then the speakers were significantly better. Once you change the deck and speakers, its night and day.

Plus I deadened the doors with Raamatt, it made a huge difference. Just closing the doors went from a tingy metal noise to a solid thud.

6x9's would be the better way to go of the 2 you mentioned then. If that didn't fix what you wanted, just buy a Bazooka. The powered ones are still small enough and sound decent, good enough to please most.
