Are my wheels too wide?

Hi all, recently bought new wheels for my 05 trd sport. But when I pulled them out of the box they sure look wide! Cepek DC-2 17X9 . I was going to run Nitto Terra Grapplers in 285/70/17 . The only mod I plan on installing is a 2" leveling kit in the front only. Will this set up work? Back spacing is 4.5 on the new wheels but it looks pretty close to the caliper when I did a dry fit...with almost no brake pad left. Thanks guys

They will work - i've seen other Tacomas with Cepek's, (search the forums) and they look good.

That is almost a 33" tire, so you'll probably have to remove some mud flaps and may still need to trim a little more - depends on how your alignment turns out.

For what it's worth, I have a 31.5" tire and didn't have to remove mud flaps, but if you added another 1" to the diameter, I'd be hitting the mud flap. I also have a 2" leveling kit.

 

I'm not against slightly smaller tire size. But the next nitto down is a 265 70 and that's not big enough....

anyway, 265/70r17 is the same diameter as my 265/65r18. I also have a 2" leveling kit. The only difference is your tires will stick out an additional 1/2" further than mine.

if you absolutely need to have 285/70r17's, go buy a dremel cuz you'll need it

 

I guess im leaning towards 265/70/17....I dont want it to rub. Also dont want them to stick out the sides too far. The truck above looks good, but I cant really tell how far out the tires are sticking. Still, holding the 9" wheels in my hands they sure look wide.

 

Got the truck back yesterday. Looks sick..! Front mudflaps are gone and the inner fenders are gone. I need to get them back from the shop so I can try to fit them myself after some trimming.

Yeah, def get those back from the shop. I'm running 285/70/17 with a 4.5" bs, and 2" lift up front, and had to do some trimming too.

 

I think the kit was 2.5 in the front and 1.5 in the rear. ....I havnt had time for pics yet, plust I gotta figure out how to load them!

 

Gotcha, like checking out how they look. I'm wanting to go up in tire size without too much extra work. Mine is a factory 2012 DCSB Off Road 4x4.

those will be fine with 285's, i like the wider look!

 

I have some 295/70/17 Nitto Terra Grapplers on my truck. The rear is fine with an AAL. In the front, I trimmed some but when I go over a bump at full lock I get some rubbing. It also rubs on the frame some. With the 285s, that shouldn't be a problem though. My tires stick out past the fenders maybe 1.5 inches max. The backspacing on my wheels is 4.5 inches.

The width on the 285s is 11.5 in, the 295s, 12.13 in.

Long story short, like everyone else has said, you should be able to get away with it. There might be some minimal trimming involved.
