Theyre both squeezing, but i think Fehr squeezed too hard when he counter-offered for longer CBA agreement length, contract lengths, and contract terms for players AFTER the owners finally decided to increase their make whole offer from 211 million to 300 million.... it's like asking for a raise for months, then when your boss finally gives it to you, you turn around and say "yeah ok whatever, let's talk about heathcare benefits, retirement, and a company vehicle" your boss would throw you out of his office.

I'm not a bettman fan, but this time i dont blame him for being pissed.

    i'm being so pessimistic today.

As much as this whole situation makes me , I think about the thousands of arena vendors/workers who relied on the hockey season to put food on their tables. Totally sucks for them.

Well, since we can't look at, think about, hear about the NHL without getting pissed off, I am relying on Friday afternoon pickup for my hockey kicks this season! :frusty:

Nothing better than throwing a puck at a bunch of plugs...

I think you have good reason to be pessimistic today.

The players are biting the hand that feeds them and Fehr is the devil telling them to do it....likely because he has them believing the meal will only get richer. After yesterday, and in spite of my desire to see resolution, I would enjoy hearing the owners telling the players to enjoy their year off. I say starve the spoiled children; Cut them right fucking off. Fehr really has nothing constructive to bring to the negotiations anymore. He really is a douchebag. He does not care about the long term health of the league.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but when that DB was head of the Baseball union he actually failed to resolve the labour dispute. Did he not? If I remember correctly, it was resolved in court. Not through negotiation.

I posted this article earlier. If you haven't checked it out, I suggest you do. It is very succinct:

yeah i have seen that actually - good article but i dont completely agree with it...

if the players cast ballots, the lockout would have ended long ago. the problem is, the majority of the players are uneducated in business, and can't make a good decision because they don't fully understand the ramifications of the negotations. also, they all come from vastly different backgrounds. Sidney Crosby's opinion on the CBA is going to differ greatly from some 4th liner/borderline AHL player.

And for the most part, players just want to play, so the owners could leverage them into any position they want by forcing a lockout everytime the CBA expires.

Fehr's job is to make sure the players aren't raked over the coals, just like the agents are there to do the same thing when they negotiate contracts. I dont blame the union for existing or Fehr for trying to do his job. But i do blame Fehr for doing his job poorly. He needs to know when to draw the line.

Are you sure you read it?

The article doesn't claim that the union either shouldn't exist or that its members(players) should have voted previously. It claims that they should do it now and that Fehr is "flying them too close to the sun" meaning the obvious; going forward, his decisions may become more detrimental than constructive for everyone.

If players haven't yet clued into what is going, they never will. One does not need a business background to understand what is going on here...

some of my comments pertained to other people's comments about the union's existence and I think that ties into the article a bit.

I agree with you and the article that the players would have accepted this offer. and I think they should from a business standpoint, not a fans standpoint. all my point is that they need to be careful because once they vote, they're basically saying "screw you" to Fehr and could be leaving themselves open to being ripped off by the owners. and then there's decertification...

This is an interesting point. That said, Fehr does work for the players. At some point the players need to tell him what they comfortable with. I dont necessarily think this needs to be a "screw you" type of situation. Keep in mind Fehr is not a hockey guy. His knowledge of the game is minimal at best.
His most recent bargaining manoevre would lead me to believe he thinks hockey fans are unaware of what is happening.

I'd hope it would resort to a literal "screw you" message to Fehr, but professionalism can't be taken for granted in these negotiations. lol

While I truly believe the league adjenda is to make all of the franchises viable. I also see what the writer is pointing to. Lawyers have wiggled there way into every nook and cranny of out society. They are theives, for the most part and their influence is a cancer, imo. This situation is likely no exception.
x3 . Watched the last half. If you put NHL jerseys on those guys, outside of their smaller size on average, I wouldn't know the difference. The hockey was excellent!

Been doing some timekeeping for a local tourney. Marty St. Louis, salo, and Clark's kids all play on the same team, and all they were all there being just normal hockey dads. Kinda cool to see them not on the big ice
