    Hello,

I have had my black Taco now for almost 10 years! I am the original and only owner. I can say up to this point the truck has been nothing short
of the best vehicle I have ever owned. She has only 65K miles on her and I have always taken good care of her. I am happy to say the interior looks as good as the day I drove her into my driveway.

Having said that, I can tell you I have done a total of "zero" mods to the truck. I guess I was always happy with it stock. After 10 years though all of this is about to change! After visiting several Tacoma forums my eyes have opened up to all the cool mods and upgrades. I can say that I am now very excited about making some upgrades to my black Taco.

Anyway, I will be making most of the mods over the next year or two. I plan to post them here on TW as I execute them. If I think it will
benefit the community, I will provide details on my upgrades. Hopefully some of the content I provide will help somebody else out there. I am not
mechanically inclined when it comes to car mechanics, but I do work in IT so I am a bit techy. This should be fun, fun, fun!!! :D

I look forward to many future posts with my fellow taco lovers. I had no idea there was such a huge and helpful community. It makes me like my truck even more!!! And to think I was contemplating selling her for a fancy European sedan!!!

    I should be ashamed

My first upgrades are mostly going to be involving the electronics. The first project in queue is remote keyless entry! Next in line after that will be the security system. I got to make sure all my new toyz are protected.

Welcome. I'm not normally a modifier either myself.

But since yours is now 10 it is officially an "older truck" although a very clean low mileage one. So feel free to mod away.

I just can't stomach the thought of spending hundreds/thousands bastardizing a new, and very expensive vehicle. Most of which doesn't really add that much functionality or value. Plus not that many want the aftermarket stuff on there if you decide to sell.

But an older truck you plan to keep is a different story, that is what they exist for, to play with.

Wow 10 years without a Mod! I didn't even go 10 hours before I started modding it.

As for 'bastardizing' a new vehicle I have to disagree. Toyota doesn't make a truck with all the options I want, for example, a stereo that doesn't suck asshole. And all Tacoma stereo systems are complete, total, crap. They don't come with HID projectors, which I wanted stock. So dropping thousands on a new truck to me is just making the truck exactly the way I want it.

I couldn't agree more! If I decide to sell the truck at this point it will probably be to a younger person anyway. They would enjoy the mods I have planned.

I agree with you too. If you like it there is somebody else out there that will probably like your mods as well. I don't see anything wrong with upgrading a new vehicle either. Especially the stereo system. That is on the top of my list after I get the security system installed.

No arguments here. Do anything you want if you know you will keep it a long time (and you know it isn't going to get wrecked, a big gamble these days).

Just be sure how bad you really want it and make sure it is really an upgrade from the original. And realize hardly anyone will pay anything extra for that $1000 stereo if you sell the vehicle a year later. Especially not the insurance co. for a accident claim.

I am going to put all the electronics in myself so I will take them back out and put the stock back in if I want to keep any of the new toys.

I agree with what you are saying about the upgrade part. Make sure it is an upgrade for sure! :)

Just depends who you find and what they want. I've sold a car, only for the reason it could compete in SPL competitions. The car wasn't even what the guy wanted, he wanted the 4 Cerwin Vega Stroker 18's in the back ;)

With my insurance I have all my aftermarket stereo covered. Each time I get new stuff I go down, they take pic's and copies of my receipts and add it to my file. There are things they won't cover, and yes it costs more, but a lot of insurance companies will have extra coverage for people like me who dump A LOT into the stereo.
