Ok, so i need some help from the masters!

I'm installing a YHM Free Float Hand Guard.

I'm following the instructions to a T, except I hit one snag. The hand guard doesn't screw onto the barrel nut far enough to insert the anti-rotation screws.

I can go about 3/8 of a turn past there before it stops. I have more thread inside the hand guard.

It seems like I ought to be able to screw the hand guard in a little further and insert the anti-rotation screws . Is it possible that this is defective? I'm thinking that the problem is with me, and not the part...SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!

    as promised, the pic:

Should I just wire brush it off and apply some high heat paint?

Also, what are thoughts on painting the gas tube flat black to blend in with the rest of it all?

Sweet. I've read a little there and need to do more including signing up. So no regrets on going 6.8 huh?

Thanks for the input, guys. I am wanting to try and shoot a Sig Sauer 716 for my personal experience. Other than the .308 the 6.8 as others mentioned seem to perform well. I was deciding on a AR15 that chambers the .223/5.56 and a AR10 for the .308 calibers. The 6.8 falls in bullet size between the two. So hmmm, decisions decisions :D

The advantage to the 6.8 is its just a seperare upper and mags. So you don't even need 2 complete rifles. The disadvantage is the ammo is more than 308.

Cowboytaco, mine sometimes does that to, it is copper and solvent out of the barrel from when you clean the bore. It runs down there because there is a small gap between the barrel and flash hider. I just take flash hider off when i clean the bore. As far as the handguard i would think it should screw on farther, maybe call whoever produced it and ask them.

    A) YHM tubes are a PITA.

    B) Are you sure your barrel nut is aligned EXACTLY correct for your gas tube?

    C) You'll have to screw the stop nut a little more on and get another turn or 2 out of that. The little tail that is over the stop nut ends up pretty darn close to the receiver.

    youlie_af8ccf883c0b330333db7188982a6623c507514c.jpg

    D) You'll want to junk the YHM after a couple times to the range.

    D) You'll want to junk the YHM after a couple times to the range.

    Why is this? Just curious.

It's too big of a diameter. The only people who like them are the tacticool types who try to hide a suppressor under them.

I just put one on layaway for myself for Christmas I can't wait until I get it paid off. How does yours shoot? What kind of groups do you get at 100 yds?

To make the barrel lighter while looking cool and theoretically adding strength.

It also aids in heat dissapation. More surface area makes it cool down faster. Plus it looks bad ass!

Doesn't it add more surface area as well... Which makes it run cooler when hot??? Not entirely sure... But the big thing like he said is the weight... Especially on piston systems...
