With 4.10 gears, what would the tach readout be at 55-60 mph???? Not considering the gas mileage. might as well forget the camper and just stay at the holiday inn.

 

4.10's arent that bad. 4 cylinder's have them stock. Alot of guys that run 33's want 4.10's including myself. Brings the gearing/power back close to stock.

 

4.10 gears would be a horrible idea for a stock Tacoma with a V6 in my opinion, unless you're just towing very heavy and only in town. In stock form, the Tacoma already revs too high at highway speeds. You went to 4.10 gears to compensate for taller tires. Effectively, you're back to stock gearing overall. Comparing to the 4 cylinder isn't a good comparison. They come stock with 4.10 gearing but their transmission is geared different and that engine creates power differently (revs higher).

I totally understand what youre saying. This practice is commonly used in the drag racing industry. I dont think he said anything about larger tires, besides that if i were going to pull a large rv i would have bought the tundra. Its got plenty of torque and hp. Ive seen tacos pulling rvs and some appear to be struggling because its lack of torque and hp. Just my 2 cents. The man in the end is going to spend alot of money . (period)

Only at slower speeds for the reasons I stated above. If you feel the Tacoma is greatly underpowered for what you want to tow, perhaps you bought the wrong truck and should have gone with a full sized. There are plenty of aftermarket add-ons for smaller gains or boost for a fairly large gain but if you really feel that you're that far underpowered, a full sized truck would have probably been a better choice.

Long tube headers are better for bottom end. Just how the air flows. Long and skinny is bottom. Short and fat is top end.

 

You're dead backwards. Long tubes are better for top end, shorties are better for low end.

Ok. Thanks for the good info and correction. Used to build engine with more power makes a difference there I guess.

My auto trans truck turns about 1900 rpm at 60 mph, fine unloaded. Putting in steeper gears would help a lot to get the engine into it's power band. Ain't gonna help fuel milage tho.
