So I emailed the guy I've been dealing with at Go Toyota here in Denver asking when the 2010 Tacomas will be available. His response was:

    "Steve -

Thanks for your reply. As of now, we do not have a date for the 2010 Tacoma arrival. We are expecting them, as usual, in late August or September. However, adjustments are often made to meet inventory and marketing objectives and thus, subject to change.

We do anticipate a shortage of Tacomas in mid-summer. Toyota is being very conservative in their projections and build schedules, due to the volitlity of gas prices and the uncertain economic situation. If you can move your schedule ahead, it probably will be beneficial in both price and incentives.

    Thanks"

Has anybody heard anything different lately?

I wonder if this will make the 2009 closeout prices worse than normal?

With a shortage of Tacomas this year, I think there's less incentive to lower the price on the 2009's when the 2010's arrive.

For all we know, the 2010's might be hard to find.

I know but I might be getting this decked out 09 Sport from San Jose if he still has it when the Mazda's gone. If he doesn't then I'll have the SW v. SWB dilemma I had before. lol
Crap...that's not good news in any direction.

So let's say the 2010's are out but the dealership doesn't have what you want. You can have Toyota build one to your liking? How long is that wait do you think?

Of course! You just tell the dealer what you want and they pas on the info. It takes about 2-3 months or so from Mazda including shipping from Japan. I'd assume since Taco's are made in CA and Mexico mainly it shouldn't be as long. like 1-2 months.

Have heard through several sources that with the forced closings of Chrysler and GM dealerships nationwide this week, and the disenchantment of the buying public, Toyota (read: all imports) are expected to raise prices dramatically in the next few months, if not immediately.

Even Ford is considering raising their prices.

Smoke 'em while you got 'em.

I think it will be worse if the 2010's have no new features compared to the 2009's. I know the differences are usually minor, but still.

Does anyone know for sure that Toyota is making 2010 Tacomas?

2010's will be largely unchanged according to Consumer Auto Guide:

Do you think this article is accurate?

It's like they have no hard facts to back it up. Even the last sentence says a lot, "This report is based on evaluations of the 2009 Toyota Tacoma."

Why would they lower prices because of GM... if anything they should lower them to further undercut and undervalue their already horribly devalued inventory.

Also, despite what that guy said, the Tacoma is one of the top selling trucks, which is no small feet. If anything, I'd tend to think they'd keep the '10's at or near the 09 production starts. Seriously how many people here traded a fullsize in for a tacoma?

Dude - you can believe it if it's on the internet!

Nah, seriously, just another opinion site, and you know what that's worth. Just threw it up for the sake of discussion. But, it is backed up by the Discovery Channel. ;)

Regardless, we all make our own calls. I say more fact than fiction.

As long as a capitalist society exists in America? Not on your life. Prices will go up.

Unfortunately, that may change in the years ahead.

Yup, I traded in my '03 Silverado Z71 for my new '09 Tacoma TRD 4x4 (which I love) and negotiated a trade value and new car price that I am happy with. I belive (hope) that I beat the curve.

I also just traded my '03 Z71 Silverado for an '09 Taco. I've had 3 Z71's in a row, so it was a difficult decision betw this truck and the '09 Silverado LS. I already miss my chevy in more ways than one, but hopefully this truck will work out. Time will tell...

I heat ya Powderrrr. I had two Z71's before my Taco, the latest an LT, and what I do miss is the leather, power, heated seats. Fold down armrests were pretty nice, too.

But, what I've gained in handling, MPG (Z averaged 13.8) and outright driving fun (wo0t), makes up for all I had before. No remorse here.

Hang with it, make it your friend, visit your local truck shop and check some mods, and you'll find the luv. :)

Don't take this the wrong way, but if heated, leather seats are a priority, I think it's foolish to drive a truck in the first place.
