I got my first 4x4 in 1972...haven't been without one! I still like Chrome!
In reading the thread on adding an OEM cruise control to regular cab tacoma's
being so easy because they are pre-wired for it. That got me to wondering
if all the wiring harnes's are the same. If so I wonder if the wiring is under
the dash for outside power mirrors? Does anyone know?

Take off your door panels and see. Do you have electric door locks and windows? The electric mirror wiring is usually ran along with the door lock and window wiring. There may be an unused plug behind your door panel.

was there ever a conclusion about if toyota pre-wired the trucks for power mirrors and or door/windows?

I could take the door panel off but would rather not if someone knows 100%

My guess would be that if there isn't a rubber boot / wire protector between your door and truck body, near the hinges, then there's no pre-wired anything in the doors.

Here's a photo of what I'm talking about from someone else's thread:

I forgot about the speaker wires running to the doors, so I guess that boot will be there no matter what.

So far, it looks like one would have to run your own wiring to do power mirrors. You can buy the mirrors and the switch online, but it sounds like the wiring isn't there for regular cabs :(

Ya, Reg cab doesn't have anything wired from the factory.
There is a connector behind the dash near the mirror blank, I ahven't tried to trace where it goes yet, but there's nothing in the doors other than speakers.

    From this thread:
Since I don't have a 2nd gen Tacoma (yet), I can't verify if the above is correct. Assuming it is, the ideal setup would be to run wires from the door harness/plug (which apparently is already wired to the switch?) to the mirror connectors (which don't exist).

Some homework for someone who has a 2nd gen Tacoma would be to see if the wires running from the mirror control switch to the door harness already provides power. If one of them does, then figuring-out what the part number is for the wire connector in the door would be helpful... unless the wires just plug into the connector, in which case sourcing the correct wire connectors would be necessary. (I personally would the mod appear as OEM as possible, hence using the OEM wire connectors rather than inventing my own.) Here is the mirror side of the connector:

I'm assuming the two empty slots on the bottom of this plug must be for mirrors w/ turn signals... but I'll leave that mod for another day and another thread :p

This wonderfully blurry photo shows where the power mirrors connect on a truck that has them:

    IMG_0975_29d6c1c680a1c6e2df48c51b9d788098a94f470e.jpg

So is the 'missing link' the pink wires and connectors from the near the tweeter to the door harness? Maybe one could get such wire harness from a junk yard?

I hope I'm not polluting this thread with useless information everyone already knows. I'm hoping to find enough info here to inspire someone to do the mod so I'll know exactly what to do when I get my new truck this Spring :D

    Already been in the door.
If you have a 5-lug base model without power windows, you do not have the connectors for power mirrors.
The only wiring in my doors (2008) is for the speakers.
    2 wires... that's it.

Yup... hence the thought that perhaps a trip to the salvage yard *might* be an easy way to get the mirror wires and connectors w/o having to fabricate them yourself(?)

    Not on the regular cab.

The truck does not share a common harness with the AC/DC models.

Correct... you'd have to find a salvage yard that has a smacked-up, late model extended cab or double cab that has power mirrors... and then hope they're willing to let you rip apart the doors in search of some silly wires and connectors :p

Not just the doors... all the way back to the switch.
