I've been looking for a tacoma for a while. I've been emailing this owner and almost everything seems to be good with this truck.

1998 4cyl with 112,000 miles. Shifts smooth, 4x4 works, frame has been checked and is ok, nice wheels, lots of tread, good clutch. The only thing that worries me is that the check engine light is on.

I just wanted to hear everyones thoughts and advice, maybe some common things that would make the light come on.

    Thanks in advance!

If it actually runs good with no problems then it shouldnt be too bad, good idea would be to get a cheap scanner to get the code out of it

or you can ask the dealer guy to take it to an advance auto parts or autozone and get the code checked for free before you buy it. He oughta have dealer tags he can throw on it to take it to get the code checked at an autoparts store for free

It isnt at the dealer, but im sure the guy will let me take it somewhere... are you sure both of those places can check it? Im gonna see if there is one around where it is.

How hard/ how much is it to replace an o2 sensor?

Deck plate mod, intake silencer removed, AFE Pro Dry S Air Filter, debadged, Goodyear Duratracs 265/75R16. Flowmaster knock-off muffler!
looks like a clean truck, like it has been taken care of & all! could be the egr clogged up or something small about the check engine light! mine came on once, took it to advanced auto parts, they said it was something about a vaccum or something, stopped at the gas station, filled it up, twisted the fuel cap on, started it up, & the light went off!

That's a good looking truck :D my 98 4cyl. has 250,000 and it's check engine light is on only because of the O2 sensors.

Most likely the O2 sensor, mine was coming on and off randomly and every time I go to Auto Zone, they tell me the same thing with their scanner, the O2 sensor. Dude at Auto Zone told me to run some premium octane gas in it. Believe it or not he was right, it goes out every time I run some premium gas. I said screw it, I'm tired of going to Auto Zone for the same light, I run only premium now and no more check engine light.
