I gave mine a quick dose of media blasting to rough them up, then sprayed dupli-color adhesion promoter. I let them set for the week while I was at work then sprayed them with dupli-color flat black wheel paint..

I found out after that Dupli-color says I can skip the adhesion promoter.

I think they turned out ok.

The paint went on nice.. Thick with lots of coverage but I never had any runs.

Prep,Prep,Prep and then take your time painting them!!!

DO NOT rush the process or you will need to follow with re-prep and touch-up.....wheels were perfect till my son got impatient and went to move one....thumb prints SUCK in new paint :p....

My '02 wheels were painted and to this day have stayed true...even the hub-caps....even after a few NH winters .......

They now collect dust in the garage since the "Newer" wheels purchase..

TMBoston, welcome to TW from a neighbor down on the coast....Dova..

have you considered plasti dip'ing them?
i see you're pretty new so im not sure if you have heard of it. it's super easy and cheap, so far i have noticed it's really durable as well.

No close ups but I can take some. It was simple, remove tire, Clean wheel with hot soapy water, tape around wheel, spray, heat gun, spray, heat gun etc... Full can for each wheel. I have been through a touch less car wash with a high power wheel sprayer as well and it held up perfectly. It's actually a lot more durable then I thought it would be. The best part is, I can peel it off. And for you guys down south I think it's only $9 a can. I haven't 4x4 with it but its holding up to the -20 weather I'm in right now.

i have noticed my plasti dip'd wheels are peeling in spots already, only after a month. im not sure what other peoples experience with the durability of it is but i wouldn't recomend it for long term.

I dipped mine as well. Currently in the process o removing it. Maintaining it isn't too hard. Touching up is easy and matches up well. However, I got sick of doing so. Going back to straight alloy for now. May paint them someday. I've blacked out nearly everything I can on my truck so a little contrast may be good with my spruce mica.

Long story short, stay away from the dip.
