I'm selling my 2004 SR5 4x4 manual TRD package tacoma and was wondering about a proper price. Blue book for trade in value is $10,000 and change. Blue book for out right sale is $12,000 and change. Since it is excellent cond with only 79,000 miles I'm thinking more along the lines of $15,000. I'm not taking the low ball trade in offer and from what I've read here and elsewhere the 2004 model year is in demand especially with the low miles. I'm upgrading to a 4runner as I no longer need a bed and can use the extra seating.
Thanks for any and all opinions.

    You're insane.

And most private party purchasers would aim for between trade in/wholesale and private party price. You're lookin to charge more than what a dealer would, without providing any of the benefits.

But, ask for what you want. The market will let you know that is fair if it sells.

Maybe, but the dealer here can't even keep them as good used tacomas go before they even hit the lot. We're a big winter sports town and if you dont drive a toyota then its a subaru. I've heard of the dealer wait lists. An 03 with 80k miles went for $14,500 privately in one week after the dealer offers BB trade in value. So I don't know just fishing for info and opinions. Thanks for yours.

You should PM a mod and get this moved to the 1st gen section. You'd probably get more response there. From what I noticed I have seen double-cab 4x4 03-04 Tacomas going for around $15-17k dealership advertised price. Extra cabs seem to be going for around $11-14K. What they actually get for them out the door I have no idea.

Private parties seem to be listing pretty much the same asking price, except a bit lower on double-cabs (15-16k asking). Dealers are looking for a good chump to buy a 1st gen double-cab for 17k, hell no. Keep in mind these are moderate mileage Tacomas ~95-110k on the ODO.

This is just what I noticed here middle Georgia and the general proximity of 200 miles or so.
