Cobra 75 WX ST?

So, I bought a Cobra 75 WX ST, and am wondering if anyone who currently has it can shed some light on what they think of it? reception, transmission, does it work well etc. pics of where you mounted it would be good too! thanks guys!

You still haven't found a CB you like? Plenty of guys run the 75, I'm sure someone will chime in.

 

No I don't want something big, but I did like the 29 ltd a lot. It was nice and worked really well. I have a 25ltd but I think it needs an alignment, it transmits and receives intermittently.... Any ideas?

 

Are you still using the same antenna? What about the power supply? Did you try changing the mic on the 25? ..... Could just be an internal problem with the radio. You just have to keep plugging away until you narrow down what the issue is.

 

I have one. I don't have any pictures of it, but I mounted mine the the right of the radio below the vent. I have it paired up with a 3 ft fire stick.

I really don't use it much. When I do I seem to get decent reception. On clear nights I've talked to random people from all over the southeast (I'm just east of Atlanta,ga).

Still need to run coax from antenna, run pwr/grnd to battery or fusebox & dial in SWR.

 

I bought a new set up, took me reading THIS a few times to get it working right.

I've tried everything. The transmit light still changes when keyed up and it powers on... But sometimes the meter doesn't move and it doesn't make any noise when squelch is off... It's only 30 bucks for an alignment I'll just see if that fixes it and either sell it or use it as a back up...



On another note, I got the 75 WX ST today

It's awesome and works really well, I mounted it to a switch blank to the left of the steering wheel. I love it!!

 

Ouch too late to offer my opinion! LOL We did a lot of trail testing on the 75 and the

$90 Midland 75-822 40 Channel CB-Way Radio

Midland 75-822. The Midland won out on performance. We've also done a few mods on the 75 including replacing the final drive transistor and really were happy with it after the fact. I'm selling more of the Midlands now though just because you can use it out of the truck.

 

haha yea i read a bunch of reviews, they all seemed good. the only thing i didnt like about the midland was the cig lighter plug... and that it takes up more room. im happy with the cobra 75, have received and transmitted 6-8 miles away so far on a 2' firestik.

 

Good deal! Yep, we have been replacing the cig plug with a hidden connector under the dash for the coax and power wire.

But...yep, the 75 is a good little radio for sure and it sounds like you got it all installed correctly if you're getting that range out of it.

 

Yeah I've heard a lot of good things about the cobra 75. I just got my Uniden up and running in my Tacoma and I've been thinking about getting a cobra 75 for my Celica with like a Magnetic Antenna or something.

 

Just finished up this install... what a PITA, but worth it.

that's a nice fuse block where did you get that at?

 

That's the BSC (blue sea combo)... has been in all my trucks.

I had the 75 wx-st and it was ok when it was working...
now have a 19 IV.

I didn't like that the 75 got warm in my hand
and that it felt oversized in my hand.
don't think I have real small hands
but didn't like the feel nonetheless

the warm mike body is maybe ok on a cooler day...
but otherwise gave me the sweaty palm deal.

mine stopped working after about a year.
Had to to with the primary wire/connector to the mike control.

Could be constant plugging and unplugging may have
contributed to the premature demise..
broken contacts were found to be at the connector's soldered connections.

tho' it's possible I was not very careful when unplugging that.
