Nope, you do have to have your WiFi turned on is all. the gopro it's self creates a network, you phone just links up to the cameras network.
Also, I like having the WiFi as well as the LCD screen, the makes it way easier to use it like a point and shoot camera

That is a Vector Mount. It mounts on the top or hood of the vehicle. Sweeps with you in the turns so the mount is not static. It's pretty dam cool.

Here is more info about it, and a video

Question for y'all with GoPro experience. I'm getting one of these for Christmas but need to decide which one. The Hero 3 Black is a little out of my price range so I'm considering either the Hero 3 White or Hero 2. With the Hero 2, since it would be cheaper, I could get more mounts and such. Which one would y'all say is a better deal? It will mainly be used for hunting/fishing and general shenanigans

I would do the white. It looks like it has very similar qualities as the hd2. With improvement like built in WiFi, better audio, and it has the flat lens on the housing. All stuff you would pay separately for with the hd 2

The Hero2 is about the same as the Hero Silver-maybe between the white and silver one. You can sometimes find deals on the 2 that include the wifi/remote option.

For the price i would just go with the Hero3 Silver package. it's the same price as the Hero2, but your now getting built-in WiFi, a lighter better camera, and will be able to use the LCD touch screen backpack if you pick one of those up. The New touch screen has limited usage on the 2's. No need to buy a remote for it since you can use the GoPro app to control the camera if you have a wireless connection available.

We have the Silver's in stock ready to ship for $299.99. We also have spare rechargeable batteries, and any of the accessories you may want to go with it.

    ^^This^^

I have been fortunate enough to get to play around with all 3 of the new cameras as well as a ton of Hero2s, HeroHDs, Hero960s and the original Heros and based on the short blurb you gave us I would lean you towards the White edition.

The White edition is essentially an intro model to the new GoPro line of products. It shoots still photos in 5MP as opposed to the 11MP that the Silver does and has a slower FPS rating in burst mode but with your first POV cameras you are going to using it primarily as a video camera and not a point and shoot.

In this regard the White and Hero2 (Silver) are very similar minus a few small details which again comes down to FPS ratings when shooting in 960p. The White will shoot in 30 frames per second where as the Silver will do 48. Unless you're getting super technical with slow motion shots (and were talking extremely technical) you will never know the difference between the two. The Hero2 and Silver/Black editions also have a function built in called Protune, this is a feature that will allow you to simultaneously shoot 1080p video and shoot photos in burst mode. I haven't had much time to play around with this function yet but from what I can tell its pretty complicated, really cool but I don't foresee the average GoPro owner using it very often.

The Hero2s just had a pretty good price cut but the built in Wifi of the Hero3s makes me think that the White edition would be a great option for you as you will not have to buy the WiFi backpack in order to use the smartphone App and down the road can use the backpack point instead for something more useful like the LCD touchpac or a Battery backpack for longer shooting time.

Here's a nice comparison of the various different shooting modes of the Hero3 Black.

    https://vimeo.com/53552720#

One of the reasons I originally suggested the Hero2 is because there have been deals that included the WiFi back. The flat lens is definitely better than what's standard on the Hero2-is it enough to chose it over a 3 if you're just an average user? idk.

But if you want to make comparisons, there are any number of all Hero2 or Hero3 footage on Vimeo/YouTube.

Oh yeah, we found it. It doesn't go as far as it looks. The furthest we threw the 4lb medicine ball was 324ft. Take a look here.
