Largest tires with bilstein 5100's set at 2.5"

The more I read I don't think I will like the result of pre loading the stock springs to 2.5". I have seen some pictures of trucks with the 5100's set at 1.75" and they look ok but it's really not that much difference than stock. So I think to get a little more lift and still have a good ride I'm going to look into springs as well. Looks like 5100's set at .85" and eibach 1.6" lift springs is the way to go. That with a 1.5" aal in rear and I think I will be set.

 

This was 18x9s with 285/60/18s with 2.5 up front/1.5 AAL out back with mud flaps removed and no frame chop. Had no rubbing. 31.5" OD on those tires. Not sure what bs the wheels had but edge of tire was 1.5 or 2" past wheel flares...........

 

Looks sweet! That lift looks perfect, exactly what I am trying to achieve. I like the looks of the 285's as well, always have... I can do it with correct back spacing and or trimming for clearance, but the more I think about it 265's are more economical for what I need... But I like the look of the 285's... Is it worth it! Such hard decisions in life...

 

Yeah, I stayed with 265/70/16s this time with TRD Blisteins, .5" lift up front and no lift out back. 4.5 bs, -12 offset, 16x8 wheels. No trimming, no rubbing, cheaper tires & better mpg. Both were/are 2.7l 5 spd prerunners, just the 05 was access cab & the 08 is reg cab............

 

I'm really stuck between the duratracs and the grabber at2's. I like the look I the duratracs but in size 265 they look roundish. The grabber at2's have more of a square look, and are more affordable, and have a better warranty... They both get good overall reviews so I can't go wrong either way. Anyone had both have any input?

 

Like someone said earlier you can run 275/70/17 with no issues that's what I'm running. Mine=32.4". My next set will be 255/80/17=33" which is another tire you could run without having issues. I saw you mention getting eibachs do it they are a great coil and paired with 5100's=awesome ride/handling.

 

Yeah I'm going with the eibach springs for sure. I thought about 275's but neither the duratrac or the grabber at2 are available in 275/17. I want a 17" wheel so I will go with what's available for 17's. Thanks for the input on the springs, can't wait to get it all installed.

Do you have any alignment issues at 2.5" of lift in the front? The more I read it's on the border line of needing different upper control arms...

 

I had to get LR UCAs to get the caster back at 2.5. Drove all twitchy until caster was added. 2-3 seems to be the sweet spot. mine was set at 2.7 and drove great.

 

Sounds like I really should not go over 1.75" without uca's... Ok thanks for the input!

 

NO UCA's needed. Not exactly sure on how much lift I ended up with, but I'm at 23" from hub to fender. Thats with 5100's@0, eibachs 620's and toytec .5"spacer. the toytec spacer =.75" of lift. Personally I think your be fine if you keep it at 2.5 or under.

 

I'm at 2.5 with no issues and in spec.

 

Maybe I'll just go with 2.5 and see if I have any issues, if I do I can always lower it thanks to the 5100's.

 

At 2.5" lift in the front on stock uca's, my alignment was technically" within specification" . I was very happy about this until I drove at highway speeds and I realized my truck was prone to wandering. You will definitely lose caster and increase your camber when you run a 2.5" lift . More adjustable uca's will counter this if set corrrectly. Needless to say, I did change out my uca's.

 

What is a good uca for 2.5" lift?

 

i rub with 255/75/17 and no cutting. i know that i still need to adjust the front up a little more and it should b fine.

 

I tried to warn them about the loss of caster which will leave the truck "technically" within spec but drive like shit on uneven surfaces, wander in grooves on frwy & windy situations. Lack of caster won't wear the tires but will wear on your last nerve as far as being annoying as hell.........

LR are the most budget priced if you don't want higher priced ones with uniball ball joints. Those have better articulation for offroad but more prone to the elements of offroading fouling them if not maintenanced regularly. The LR's have regular ball joints with a boot on them for longevity but give up about an inch of articulation.
