What's going to happen with Gas prices?

Ive heard were gonna have $4 dollar gas for a few years now, hasnt happened yet but its only a matter of time. beater cars are the answer

 

yeah, if prices go that high i will buy a motorcycle or a moped

 

GAS IS CHEAP!!! (relatively)

Back in the early 1980's I was driving a car that averaged 14 MPG. I was earning 3.75 an hour and gas hit $1.50 a gallon. If you do the math that works out to being able to buy 35 miles worth of gas for an hour of gross wages.

Now my truck gets over 24 MPG and gas is $3.00 a gallon. Lets say I'm getting 20 an hour so it now I get over 160 miles worth of gas for 1 hour gross wages.

Gas would have to hit over 13.70 a gallon before it impacts me the same way it did 25 years ago.

 

If it reaches 4 bucks a gallon I will be looking at about $76 bucks to fill up my truck. ouch.

 

God, I'll probably have to start driving wifey's Scion. She drives 10 miles to work and I drive 40. It's gonna suck being that low to the ground.

 

Stop worrying. Its already over $4 per US gallon over here. It ain't going to get any cheaper from now on. Gas has gone form $55 a barrel to over $100 per barrel in the last 12 months or less. It's going nowhere but up. Plan accordingly.

 

Exactly! Gas prices in Canada have been over $4/gallon for a couple years now and I'm not compaining. The price of everything goes up over time...it's a fact of life.

 

Dude, you hit it on the nose. I couldn't afford to keep filling up my Avalanche and the Tacoma. I believe we will get numb to the gas prices over time. Just think, next year we will be glad to pay $3.oo a gallon. I went TDY to Iceland back in 1999 and paid over $4.00 a liter for gas. The locals didn't seem to mind too much, it was routine for them.

 

well, i know gas prices going way above what they are now are coming, so i think since the wife works about 5 miles from work, and i work about 30 miles from where i work, i think i will drop her off at work(driving her honda accord 4cyl) then i'll drive to work and pick her up in the afternoon. im definitely keeping the tacoma, but when gas gets that damn high.....it'll be driven alot less.

 

this thread takes the cake for buttpuckerin factor, I have a 90 mile round trip to work and back. Anything over $3. seems rediculous to me, it`s $3.09 right now...but $4. ouch!

I'm covered. The Wing gets 38-45 mpg depending on how I drive it so as long as the Texas heat isn't too bad I can alternate the bike/truck which isn't bad.

Of course, the bike was $16,000 so the return on investment is pretty far off. A smaller cheaper bike would be a smarter choice.

 

my solution a few years down the road is to put a desil engine under the hood and convert it to run on vegi oil (kits can be pretty cheap) you get the oil to run the engine from anywhere that uses it to cook, and if you get lucky, the restaurant will sometimes even pay you to take it off their hands, because paying you is cheaper than the what they pay someones else to dispose of it. further more, the mileage is about the same, it's good for the environment, and best of all...your exhaust smells like french fries.

 

yeah....me and the wife already decided that we cant afford vacation this year, and i aint going to the beach for only 2 or 3 days....so it looks like we will be playing alot of disc golf and relaxing at the lake this year(but if gas does get that high....my boat will stay put for a while too). we have a wedding in the lower part of the state(charleston) in may, but i think thats gonna be about it for any trips for us.

Speaking of roller skates this is going to be my next vehicle (kinda looks like a roller skate).

 

No gas price is gonna keep me from going on vacation, i need my drunken beach time. But the boat is a good point, i really want a boat but gas is way too high at the moment. The best solution is a pontoon boat. take it a mile or two off shore, anchor and float and drink and swim all day and just never move. that way you'll never use much gas
