Finally finished LEDS - cupholders, console, and bed lights

Cool thanks, I was thinking white might be brighter than blue & 2 would be too much.

 

I want to mount mine under the A/C controls because my '12 has those rubber inserts in the cup holders & I still want to be able to remove them for cleaning.

 

That's where I want to put them in my 09. However it is a PITA to access that little area. That's about the only place you can put yours though since you have those gray cupholder things.

 

Yeah there or a little lower under the power outlet & USB/aux ports. I think under the A/C controls will look better though, it will put light on the USB area & cupholders.

 

This thread is the shit! Cheap, simple and totaly custom what all mods should be like!

 

I mounted mine on the inner wall closest to me so they shine towards passengers way. then they won't be in my face.

 

That's probably what I'll end up doing. I would like to get some light in the cubby thing behind the cup holders to. My other option is to mount an LED or 2 under the HVAC controls but it's a bitch to get to that area.

 

I still havent done that. That's the main place I wanted light but it's a pain in the ass. If I sit in my truck and look at it for awhile, I'm sure i'll come up with something easier.

 

On the 2nd picture,

see where the LED in the far right cupholder is? I would mount it more to the North side of the cupholder. When they are on at night , that one LED reflects off my passenger side tinted window. It's not a huge deal but I do see it out of the corner of my eye a little bit.

 

I wasn't planning on putting any in the cupholder by the center console (I have an auto so different than yours). The ones in the front 2 holders will aim at the front of the truck as others have done so won't be directly seen by any passengers.

Thanks to RAPR's guidance and advice, I just installed the under dash red LEDs (hooked up to my accessory outlet for now, too dark to hook up to rocker switch) and everything looks awesome so far. When I get a chance to wire the rocker switch tomorrow, I was thinking of using an add-a-fuse to the accessory outlet fuse instead of hooking it up to the battery. Are there any drawbacks to wiring the lights this way? Thanks for all the help RAPR

 

You would be using stock wiring and not your own which could probably be an issue. Post pics when you're done.

For those of you who installed the under dash LEDs, how did you attach them? Right now I have them attached with velcro tape, but it does not seem like it will hold up when I start driving.

 

Where specifically are you referring too... above the cupholders?

I installed one LED tube on the driver side under the dash and one LED tube on the passenger side under the glove compartment.

The kit came with screws/mounts, but I am a little hesitant to drill. I was hoping to find a way to have the LED tubes be secure when driving, but able to be removed if I need to.

 

I would be hesitant to drill as well. Where were you attaching the velcro at?

I put one strip of velcro on each of the black ends of each LED tube and under the dash/glove compartment, there is a little plastic lip that the LED tubes are attached to. I put the LED tubes there, so no my passengers or I do not knee the LEDs by accident, but there is not a lot of surface area for the velcro to stick.

 

Sounds like that lip you may be referring to is actually the foot HVAC channel? Another place you mount them is the large black plastic area on the side of each well nearest the stereo area. I think the one on the drivers side is larger than the one on the passenger.

Just had this idea as a way to mount, but it's kinda ghetto . You could always take some heavy duty string or something (even a couple zip ties) and tie it around your lights since they are a circular tube and tie it to a screw or something up under the dash and have it hang down. Would eliminate the need to drill under there.
