I've never heard of a tier system for rifles, is it just based on what they can handle/accuracy? There's a lot of manufacturers (novske, lmt, lwrc, ect...) that are great. Great as in better than an issued colt m4, but I would have to say a issue colt is tier 1 bases on its proven combat record. And if that's the case then the other top manufacturers must be negative tiers

I didn't say the stag was better than the larue. It's not!. Its just that my stag runs and at this point in time with the 1000s of rounds I have through it, it is the rifle I trust the most. Plus I beat the crap out of that rifle on purpose in classes and I'd rather not beat on my larue more than necessary. I don't do safe queens though so it'll get used that's for sure.

Oh once I get that larue as I've wanted one for ever I will be posting it up like a pic whore lol. I just emailed them today to determine the process to get one shipped to ca and lead times. They say dealer only and I'm not a dealer but hoping they will ship direct to me (I'm a FFL).

Clarification: my point is you don't have to pay a fortune to have a really good reliable rifle.

The "TDP" stands for "Technical Data Package" which are the minimum specs the govt requires for an AR supplied to the military. Manufactures such as Colt, Daniel Defense, LMT, LWRC, Noveske, Knights Armament, BCM, etc. build to this spec and higher. Here is an explanation of the items.

In the end they all shoot 5.56 bullets. If your Tier 8 rifle works at a time when my tier .5 rifle doesn't, you have a better rifle. I buy expensive shit because I can afford it and I like the piece of mind that those expensive rifles bring to me. They do offer a level of performance over cheaper rifles, but I am a pretty skilled shooter and can wring every bit of performance out of the rifles I own. To most shooters though, it doesn't really matter in the end. My buddy has an A2 upper on a carbine lower that he has pieced together. He has cleaned it like twice and it is beat all to shit, but let me tell you, that rifle is awesome.

I'm aware of what's required by the gov. And I know our colts aren't the top of the line, what I was saying is that since our colts see so much abuse/use and still run perfect, than they're "top tier" and the other guys are simply better than top tier.

Actually, Colts ARE Tier 1 rifles. A Colt is a very good rifle to start a build with. But their QC can be iffy at times. As long as Fit and Finish are not how the rifle is being judged, Colt will run when others wont. I would take a 6920 LE any day of the week and then outfit it to my needs. Had I to do it over again I would have bought a Daniel Defense, LMT, BCM, or a Colt 6920 LE. LaRue and Noveske are out of my price range.

All this talk about tier kinda sounds like ar15.com...

I recently realized my buddy's m&p sport can do everything mine can and it's half the price and I have a frankenstein ar.. Then I looked into their reviews and have been reading good things about them. They are pretty much solid for your average condo commandos. I kinda wish I had more money for ammo.

If someone was to come up to me now and ask for a good entry level ar I would say The m&p sport, get a good set of irons, lots of ammo and practice

My problem is finding a left handed AR in stock anywhere! I'm sick of shells flying in my face. My local FFL said there is a 42 week wait till my rifle arrives. :(
