Completely a side note here, but I think it shows how angry you are to have belted that out on a phone. I hate typing text messages sometimes let alone rants.

 

I bought the truck about a month ago so I'm really not sure if it has or not

 

There seems to be some fluid dripping slowly from where the tranny meets the driveline, bad seal? Easy fix?

 

NEVER ask to pay list. List price is the highest price there is! I never charge my customers list. I would be ripping them off. We charge usually 10% or more OFF list price for parts.

It is leaking from the transmission rear output shaft seal. It could be just a seal, but sometimes, depending on mileage and wear, the bushing could be worn, allowing movement at the shaft and seal contact point.

It depends on how bad the bushing is. A lot of the time it is fine. What I normally do is tell the customer the options, and suggest replacing the seal with the knowledge that if the bushing IS bad, it will still leak. Then if the bushing is actually bad, I replace it, and don't charge the customer for the second seal. I will tell you that out of the hundreds of rear seals I have done in my career, maybe 5% had bad bushings.

I wasn't aware that there was no do it yourself option. only thing that's hard to do yourself is an alignment.

 

ok so my taco's driveshaft does not have any zerks. Either the previous owner replaced the oem driveshaft with a non-serviceable one for whatever reason or 05 prerunners dont come with serviceable driveshafts? I am now having a clicking sound along with the clunk mentioned earlier, this clicking noise comes on around 10mph-35mph i believe it's coming from the driver side, maybe the transmission, or ball joint im not sure. I was pretty bummed when i crawled under with the grease gun and realized i dont have any zerks :/

 

I believe just the 4wd models have grease zerks.

Sounds like you got the alignment issue resolved but in the future I would not take your truck to the dealer for alignments. Most dealers sub out to an alignment shop and mark up the cost. I would find a reputable alignment shop and cut out the middle man.

I had the same exact issue with seized bushings, and the steering wheel going cockeyed a short while after getting an alignment at Firestone. I took it back to them and they said my bushings were seized, and they showed me that the sheet metal stops on the accentrics were flattened out due to the accentrics moving when the suspension was cycled through its travel range. They said it couldn't be aligned properly unless I had the bushings and accentric stops replaced.

I took it to another specialty alignment shop and the guy there was able to unseize the bushings and got my alignment into spec with no problem. Experience goes a long way.

You have an '05 in humid Florida? Of course the LCAs are seized. They got to be rusted solid.

 

Where do you get this information from? Every dealership I have ever been at, or worked in has their own alignment rack and tech. In 20+ years I have seen ONE dealership that did not have an alignment rack or tech, and it was a tiny dealership in a very small town. Making a claim that "most" dealerships don't have one is ludicrous.

 

Does $350 seem reasonable for a "complete 4X4 Driveline Service". If so how often should this maintenance be done. 50k miles, 100k miles?

 

Do it yourself save $300 is not hard what exactly would they do for $350?
