82 games is ok i think but yeah, 1 game a week sometimes is just stupid. should be min of 2-3. just like baseball not extending past oct, hockey (even though theres nothing going on in june sports wise) shouldn't overly extend itself in the same manner. either way its usually way overshaddowed by that hand-ball game playoffs.

exactly. shoot i've been in san antonio for a few weeks and i finally went to a rampage game here and same thing, probably a little over a third of the arena was full... granted they suck but even when i was in town for the playoffs last season. it was the same thing.

oh and theres zero etiquette while they are playing.

 

I really do not know the answer to this question but what would really happen if the NHL just let the 7 or 8 teams that are really struggling fold up and go away?

People make bad business decisions all the time and the same hold true for team owners. Just cast them aside and move on.

I could see the remaining teams absorbing the better players.

I really do not know all the ins and outs of contracts with areans and cities which will certainly come into play.

 

NHLPA wouldn't allow that to happen to it's membership

 

How could they leagley stop it? It would really be busting up the Players Union I guess.

Would the NHLPA step up to be the owners of the teams if the present owner said that is enough I am out of here or would the league take ownership of the team?

 

regardless of the nhlpa not allowing it, i dont think the owners / board of gov would want to take such a loss of investment. remember they were the ones that not only originally ok'd all these teams but also invested in the venture.

however going with the idea of those teams going away... the hockey itself would probably stay the same but there would be less goons on the ice and probably more talent. though, it would probably turn into a european-ish league of fairies skating around everyone and more finesse. i don't think that it would be as enjoyable in the end.

I also heard the reason the talks broke down last week was because Toronto didn't want their undefeated season to come to an end.

 

haha im sure that goes true with everyteam. shit at this point everyone is poised to win the president's trophy, and hell maybe the nhl will put everyone on the cup this year?

cause in 1994 - 1995 they only played 48 games , with a compressed season starting in January , predictions are they can still do 50-60

 

I haven't heard anything about re-alignment in the talks so far.
I would think that would be an important issue seeing as how the PA shot down the 4 conference league when it was proposed.

 

if they start talking about re-alignment now, we wont be playing hockey until 2020
