Ive always been taught the saying "cotton kills" and its true.

When i plan for a "expo" trip i think of it as the same as a multi-day hike/camp or ski tour. I dress according to the climate and conditions.
I learned a lot from a class i took in high school called The Wilderness Program. We would go on 4 day out trips that included hiking, biking, paddling, ski touring, ect... The rest of the time spent in class we would plan these trips. We would learn about weather safety, proper clothing to wear, how to pack your bags, how to prepare your meals and so on..

IMO, the proper clothes to wear while "expo-ing" is clothing made from synthetic or wool materials so it can wick the sweat when its hot and dry quickly when it gets wet. Its also great because it doesnt stink when you wear it for long periods of time. Its also lightweight and easy to pack.

I have a small collection of Ice Breaker Merino Wool clothing from when i was in the program. Its really an amazing material! You start off with some thin base layers and work up to the thicker top layers. I can wear it for several days and it doesnt stink. It doesnt soak up sweat so i stay warm in the winter and it breathes very well in the summer when its hot. And its very easy to peel off some layers or throw some more on. You can check it out here: www.icebreaker.com

    So theres my rant...

dam now whenever I go wheeling I have to purposely not wear khaki colors. lol

But seriously I wear bdu pants khaki or green ( my only two I own ) due to its usefulness. lots of pockets, they're made of a hybrid rip-stop material so they dry fast when wet and stay cool. But I usually just wear a T shirt on top. So guess that makes me half and half?

On a side note I wear khaki bdu pants for work almost 6 days out of the week, to me it's normal. The pair i wear when I go wheel or whatever are actually old work pants.

wearing some khahi pants is one thing. It's a whole different thing to have khaki pants, khaki shirt, khaki hat. you get the idea.

I have to laugh at this. I have to wear a khaki uniform 5 days a week, its a cold day in hell before I wear khakis anywhere that I'm not required to...

Great rant Adam. I feel very similar. I don't really identify with the "EXPO" crowd. I consider myself a Back-Country Adventure Specialist. ;)

Pics from one of my 5-day solo trips to Death Valley. Basic vehicle/ self rescue stuff, backpacking and standard camping gear are all that I require.

    DSC09240_5e2d768e5e15cc65cb5e0e2a2160d03e2c246f5f.jpg

That's just gross. :puke: Why not do a sponge bath?

x2 on the BDU pants. They only come in so many colors. They are excellent. Great range of motion and tough material that isn't subject to catastrophic tearing. I use a lot of hiking / cycling / clothing in combination with BDU pants. I find the mix works great. :D

Also, if I'm going to be hiking, I typically will wear under armor boxers, basketball shorts (nylon--dries fast!), and mountain gaiters, to keep rocks and shit out of my shoes. This combination of clothing provides maximum range of motion for the legs, especially for high stepping / climbing and outstanding air flow to keep dry and cool. I've spent years learning and trying different things. I know what works for me

Seriously dude; I feel the same exact way. Why the shit does everyone have to wear light weight khaki stuff with zip-off sleeves and a floppy hat to be an overlander? Unfortunately I think overlanding has taken on an identity that is more concerned with things and expensive junk than actually taking trips.

I like the exoverland series, but unfortunately it's a giant commercial for stuff I cant afford and dont need. If I see that exhaust jack one more time!
