Can you fit a longer barrel on that shotgun? You just wont have any accuracy at much range. Even long barreled shotguns dont have much range with slugs...

NO, she was working at a Physical Therapy clinic in the area.
I'm impressed that he shot that well, I imagine he practices a lot. I don't have much experience with slugs, but from what I understand most people don't take many shots at game at 200 yds.

The other catch, and this depends on the hunts and area, but I have never been within 300 yds of a big muley that wasn't running as fast as he could the other way. Most of the deer I have shot have been 200-300 yds out, and none of them are very big, mostly 2 points and really small 4 points. We can catch 2 points crossing the road pretty easy, but they are still young and learning. I've watched my dad damn near blow 2 points apart at 50-100 yds with a .308 many times, but the big ones you are lucky if you can even get close enough to get a shot off, unless you are shooting from 600+ yds away, which is just stupid most of the time... Most rifles become inaccurate at that range and you are more likely to just wound the animal and have it get away if you even hit it.

Not to dash your hopes, just letting you know how it will likely be. I can't imagine it will be like when you were taking pics of them, otherwise everyone would have already killed all the big bucks...

There are no general hunts in Idaho during the rut for muleys. They'd all be dead if we did that... Muley bucks get pretty dumb and careless during the rut and are pretty easy to find. Pretty hard to find outside of the rut (besides the young ones) and completely disappear during the hunt (it's like they know exactly what day it starts haha).

I never said a slug wouldn't take something down past 200 yds, it's just a matter of accuracy. With a military M16, your bullets are guaranteed accurate out to 300m. That means that if you sight them in properly, the bullet will hit exactly where you aim it out to 300m. That doesn't mean you can't hit stuff past that (I believe the marines shoot at targets out to 500m), it just means the bullet starts to veer off of its course past that range. Because a slug is so big and un-aerodynamic it veers off sooner than a high powered rifle. One of the reasons why .243's and .270's are so popular. Small caliber bullet with a super high velocity so they stay accurate for a good range, they just don't have the knockdown power of their counterparts (the .308 and 30-06).

One example of this is when I was working with the special forces in Iraq they all carried M4's and 1911's. They said they would never use the 1911 past 7yds. It was strictly for room clearing and backup. Anything past 7yds they would just stick to their rifles because they are more accurate. I shoot my 1911 at 30-50yd targets all the time, I'm not great at it (not enough practice with a pistol) but I can still hit a target. Plus they were telling up that the sniper course they went to, they watched the instructor hit a 250m target (size of a person) with an M9! So again, a pistol can shoot farther, but it just becomes more unreliable the farther out you shoot.

I like a .22 for shooting for fun:) .223 is a great coyote fun though. I wish I could afford an AR. Would like to get into calling in coyotes.

On a side note, do you guys that are coming to the meet next weekend have a preference for time. I know Konsta has something going on at 6 pm that evening. Think starting at 10-12 will work? One of the SIK guys is asking on planet.

I know! haha. The SF guys said they about shit when he did it, but he spends his days up there doing nothing but shooting. They said he basically just 45'd the guy in the air and nailed it.

Not sure. I am done with finals and don't have to work Friday that I know of so I should be free all day.

Brant texted me and said 8-9. Waiting to hear from Konsta.

EDIT: Konsta said 10. Which works for me. I'm thinking meet at the trailhead at 10 or just after.
