I'm not afraid of death, but not ready to check out any time soon. I'm not religious, so to me it's just the natural endpoint of life. We'll all get there eventually. It doesn't really bother me, when friends or family members have passed away it's not like I don't miss them but it's not all that traumatic either. That said I tell people close to me that I love them, make sure they know how important they are in my life. If I died, I wouldn't want them to wonder if I cared, and if they died I wouldn't want to feel like I missed an opportunity.

What I am afraid of is a suffering, lingering, or painful death, or worse being kept alive by machines or in a state where I can't communicate or have a life in a meaningful way. I don't want to be kept alive just to take up resources that should be used caring for someone who could still participate in life- that's just selfish and it prolongs the suffering of people who love me. If I'm going to be a vegetable it's better to let me go, let everyone grieve and get on with life.

My wife had a cancer scare about a month ago and that scared the shit out of me. Myself, like others have said, I don't want to go, but I don't walk around scared all day. I worry about me kicking the bucket and my wife being left alone with my shit to deal with.

    THIS I do worry about.

I couldn't agree with you more there.

I always said I want to die having sex. That way I can say I came when I went.....lol

"It's not the fall that kills you, It's that sudden stop at the end"

"Don't fear death, look it square in the eyes and say 'FU*K YOU'!

"I used to think life was a bitch. Then I realized life was a virgin cause bitches are easy. Eventually I learned the truth: Life is a prostitute. It fu*ks you every time while taking all your hard earned money, and giving you something that even Ajax cant clean."

I can't say that I am afraid of death. I can say I would prefer not to die, but we all know that isn't a possibility.

Looking back, I didn't think about it at all really when I was younger. As I got older, the thoughts are more about how others around me would be impacted if I suddenly passed away. The idea of my mother watching me die has kept me from doing some really stupid things later in life :)

The biggest impact the subject of death has had on my life comes from others passing away. I have been with relatives and close friends that were content, happy with how they lived their lives, leave this world in peace. I have also watched others with "skeletons in the closet" pass away in anguish because they were trying to fix their life choices in the last few days/hours/minutes.

When it comes down to it, it is all about how you live your life.

Why a poll? I'm more of just wondering about peoples reasons in regards to fear or no fear of dying rather than taking a head count.

    And there ya go. :)

No, I am not afraid of dying. We are born, we live, and then we die. So I have always known that I will surely die, someday. God is in charge, and only He decides when my time is up. In the meantime I'm doing my best to be a decent human being and have some fun along the way. It makes things easier for me to think of life as a test... I didn't get an instruction book when I was born, so all I can do is give my best effort at doing the right thing and trust that everything will work out the way it's supposed to.

I accept the fact I will die one day, but I don't think I'll ever be ready for it.
Honestly, it scares me. I don't have deep religious views/or values so it is the unknown that frightens me

At my great grandmother's 100th birthday party she offered me one piece of advice for my life: DO NOT LIVE TO BE 100. She was in decent health, but outliving nearly everyone you have ever cared about kinda sucks. She was ready to get it over with.

I believe we shouldn't be afraid of death because most of us are already dead. Dead in the sense that we have yet to wake up from all the bull shit we are fed ever since birth. We should be questioning why we are afraid of life?
