Headed to the dealer in the morning for vibrations. shifts first to 2nd and kind of grinds. also vibration at 60 but faster at 80 its fine. Also now have a howl in the rear end when at speed. Also the pedal seems heavier and gas mileage seems like its getting worse since i bought it new in april.

They have already re aligned truck and balanced wheels last time about 2500 miles ago.

Any thing I should look for or point out to them Any of these issues above that you guys may know of or have ideas of the causes and better yet the fixes?

    Thanks

may be a u-joint. if so it'll be like 200 bucks for parts and labor at the dealer.

or it may have to do with your rear drum brakes. let us know what they say

What are the temps outside there? Gas mileage goes downhill in the winter because your ecm has to compensate with more fuel, especially on start-up. I stop calculating gas mileage in the winter because it's a waste of time. Unless you have had a drastic drop in mileage, I don't think you should worry too much.

I had the same problem with mine. Dealer balanced tires twice. Then they replaced wheels and tires with new ones, same problem. I noticed it was worse after truck sat for a bit. Thought it was just cheap factory second tires (flat spots). Then checked tire pressures, they had 30 lbs in all four like sticker in door jamb states. I thought, that's crazy to low. I raised tire pressure to 36 lbs and all vibs are gone. I always own 3/4 and one ton trucks before and they ran pressures of 50 to 80 lbs and 1/2 tons run 38 to 55 lbs. Don't know why Toyota calls for such low tire pressure. So, give it a try worked for my 2012 dbl lb sport.
The howl your getting your rearend is normal, from what I hear. Checked it out here on many different post. You mostly hear it when you lift on gas pedal at speed.
As for your gas Vstrom30 is right. Plus your driving at near 80 mph. Trying to figure out the howl in rearend and get past the vib your having in tires. If I keep mine at 60 to 65 I've been averaging 20/21 mpg, when warm temps. 16/18 mpg when colder.
Hope this helps, sorry for the long post.

I'm not sure what the new trucks come with for tires, but I have purchased 2 used Tacomas, and both have had Cooper tires on them. I hate them. I would never buy Coopers because with both sets I have had come-and-go tire balance issues with steering shake. It gets worse sometimes after the truck sits. With my last truck, I switched to a quality tire and that took care of my issues. I plan to do the same after I get rid of the crap on my truck now. I have tried to road force match my crap tires with no results, and I constantly check the balance with them being right on. I guess my point is just because the truck is new, it doesn't mean the tires are the greatest.

Its kind of funny. I went this morning to check pressures. It was at 30 which is what the door jam said. I was floored this size of tire had that low of a number. My truck was cold last night and the tire looked low.

Yes the howl is just as u described. Thanks for confirming it that it is normal.

I usually do 80 on way home cuz when i get off work at 8am i am trying to get home to bed as qucik as i can. On my way into work at 11p I pop cruise contriol and do 60. I was doing 18-19 now its seems to be 17-28 glad its just winter months doing it.

Well will still bring the truck into the shop. the '12 has been having driveline issues recently and there are a few posts about it.

That's the same crap they told me. I took the general manager of sales for a ride. She could feel what i was telling them. She's the one who pushed service department to try what they eventually did. But with no result's. (Balance, and New wheels and tires0
I called her when I figured out, it was tire pressure. She thanked me and said she would go to service and explain about tire pressure and send letter to Toyota. Also said I should post here to help anyone else with this problem.
My DCLB sport, doesn't have any drive-line viberation, like others been having. I think most that feel drive line vibe is more of an engine vibe. That's my opinion.
Hope you can get what you need resolved. If I can be anymore help let me know.
