Oh, I forgot to mention I'm running a Noctura 6 air cool setup at 4.2ghz at about 1.216v (it's on auto, never gets dangerous lol) and I've never seen it break 71C even after running Prime95 on torture for 24hr straight with the ambient house temp at around 80 (when I built it).

Right now with it being about 68F... its' hitting around 58C max load...

I have no clue what any of that shiz is. I never got into the computer gaming. Always had stock pos computers. Had my first built desktop like about 2 or 3 years ago. Went to Fry's with my 'computer friend' at the time. Spent like 800-90) bucks on stuff just for the tower. Had more issues and spent more time fixing it then using it. Sold it and bought my little Asus laptop. Best computer I've had. Lol

If I turn v-sync on... almost everything just stays pegged at 60fps with everything 100% maxed out. Without... for instance Borderlands 2 runs about 85-ish, never seen it dip below 79 with a large distance draw and mad action.

yea.... most people at fry's e have no idea wtf they're doing. I used to work there... so.... yeaaa.

Yea he is not exaggerating one but about the fps. He showed me black op2 maxed out and that shit was running 60 fps the whole time. Never did it drop down, I was super impressed.

Nerds, what does a good gaming computer cost to build, ballpark? Does anyone have any recommendations on ways to become more computer savvy? I can use software well but would like to know how the computer actually works.

Eh, all depends really. My latest upgrade to this system didn't cost me that much at all, about $600 lol. However, I had most everything I needed just upgraded the critical stuff. I also cheat cause, I got my processor for a steal since I work for Intel...

It all depends what you want... the tower in and of itself.. probably looking from scratch around the 1-1.2k range for what I'd call "good." That said, you can build a really decent rig for cheaper. If you already have the monitor(s), keyboard, mouse, speakers, ect... it's not too bad. If you want, list your budget and what you need... we can go from there.
