Hike a little with the dog, fish if its convenient...not real picky. More focused on being away from a traditional campground environment basically.

Depending on the area you're looking to go, I recently heard that the Seminole Wildlife management area has some pretty good primative camping, its on the wekiva river, and it has the "Florida trail" hiking trail right there. Just an idea.

Then yes ... Ocala nf will suit you fine ... Not sure on their pets policy
But there is plenty of trails (sand) and water to fish
If you are a serious fisherman , you must checkout the reservoir/dam and river (on north tip of forest) .. Some great bass fishing and catfish

Other than our nf ... There isn't much by way of primitive (non-traditional) camping

Tosohachey out in Christmas is big lots of old roads to drive around on in the day time .. They only have 1 camping place with like 10 to 15 tent places. the far east side of the place is the St Johns river so no camping out there 12 to 15 ft. lizards everywhere on the river side. Other then the wildlife its clean and just about all fla. peeps in there. Would not feel ez about the primitive camping in Ocala NF.without a sidearm. Lots of 2 legged rif raf in there from somewhere else for me to feel safe. Jim

The ocala forest has it's dark side
Being very large wooded public land, with literally hundreds of entrances ... It attracts all types of illegal activity ...
Most of these activities occur under the moonlight ...

I try to keep my plundering/exploring to a minimum after dark .

Colin, I believe the kings I priced at dsm we $80 a pop.

Fink, I've never had a drop of moisture in my box. With the lid closed, try to wiggle it up and down. I set mine to be 100% snug. If yours isn't than that's the culprit.

When I adjusted mine tight, it would bind up and I couldn't open it from one side..had to get in truck and use both latches to open it
So I always left my lid with a little wiggle

Ocala can be very nice for sticks camping. first time i went out there, i was with two buddies in only my truck. be careful flying solo though, the sugar sand can eat you up quick, and it's tough getting unstuck without another vehicle.

when we camped outside of all of the camp grounds, we just drove own secluded trails until we found a wide part of the trail. set up camp closer to the treeline, and parked the truck between us and the trail in case someone came hauling ass through the trail at night.

Nice little clearings for campsites can be found if you look vvvv
we camped here for 3 nights.

    $160 isn't bad.

the toyota box never has moisture in it either. I did seal around the j-bolt holes with silicone though.

Was stopped by a ranger and was outside carrying. He checked the CWP said cover the gun and have a nice day..
Every winter the place has lots of drifters from all over in there. used to bird hunt in there 15 years ago and ever with lots of guns some of the folks send up my red flags...Thats one of the reasons We spend good beans now for a pay for play hunt camp..

I adjusted it a tad but it was already pretty spot-on.

Will keep an eye on it after I get it completely dried out tomorrow.

    Thanks for posting up!
