    yeah, that's on the list. We repacked my buddie's xrc10 this past summer. his actually spooled very nicely. felt like there weren't even gears in it, but we had some free time. figured it was good preventative maintenance.

    i'm getting it on the truck now while i'm still in warm sunny florida for a few more days. going wheeling in PA in the next couple weeks, so i'd like to have it on the truck for that. then when i'm back in the sunshine state i can rebuild it in nice weather.

    edit: Rob also has the 8k. the casings should be the same, with only a difference in gearing. doubtful, but i wonder if that has anything to do with it. I actually ate shit on in a rock garden in july, when i pulled on his winch line. was expecting some resistance, but it spooled right out. this was before we rebuilt it.

    didn't know that. I wonder if we just replace the gearing we could have the 10k winch:rolleyes: or if there is a stronger motor as well...

    i believe they both use the 5.5 hp motor. the winchline mine came with did have a sticker on it that said 10k though. i thought the 8 and 10 used the same diamiter line, but i could be wrong.

    just looked it up. only differences are the gearing, and the 10k has a 1/4'' wider drum.

    Edit: synthetic cable diamiter is different as well.

    8000: 11/32''x100' (8.6mm x 30m)

    10000: 25/64''x94' (10mm x 28m)

    well, i figured i had the time tonight, so i dug through my garage and found my nitrile gloves and my tub of marine grease.

    what a mess the regreasing job is. normally this stuff isn't too bad, but the taffy consistancy of the factory grease is just a mess to deal with. winch is all greased and sealed back up. letting the rtv on the winch and silicone on the solenoid cure overnight.

    goal for tomorrow is to reinforce the bumper and mount the winch. wiring up the winch would be nice, but that can wait till another day if needed.
