How To : Remove OEM Antenna ?

I am looking to remove my OEM antenna I know it should screw out but.. so far its a no go.. or does it not just unscrew? I got some plyers taken to it and all the plyers are doing is stripping off the paint on the antenna

 

It's tough, but it takes pliers and twist counter-clockwise.

 

Yours a tough? Shit, I have to go tighten mine every couple weeks or its going to fall out! LoL! Yes it just unscrews. Use a crescent wrench if you can't find the right size.


Not to thread jack too much.... but I'm going to buy a stubby antenna tonight, i just can't decide if I should do the rubber flexible one, or a black billet (similar to OEM, just shorter) antenna. Ideas?

I'm a fan of the rubber duck antenna myself...

 

Yeah, I just can't decide, I like clean. To me, its a bit 'fat' and annoying, plus after a few thousand miles I guess it bends back and stays there. The billet is clean, and doesn't stand out, ya know?

 

Yeah...I'm not going to lie....If I could- I'd shave the whole damn antenna and run the wire thru the edge of the window seat. I hate the way antennas look in general.

If only I was made of $$$$$...

 

I had to re-tight mine too! Where do you buy those stubby antennas, flexible rubber and black ones? At the dealer?

Maybe I'll just buy one of those windshield antennas and shave it. Not sure If I'd be willing to do the work myself, but I can't imagine a body shop charging much for that small of a job, paint is still in great shape, can't be hard to match.

Vice grips will work. It must just be really tight. Miine has a tendency to loosen up on it's own.

 

thats what it took to remove the damn thing, I picked up a universal shorty antenna from Autozone $8 bucks.. the base doesn't quite fit so ill opt for one of the ones from the site as posted above.. it will have to wait though as Ill be closing on my house next week.

Cost 25.95 to get it shipped (21 for antenna 4.95 for shipping) You will lose some reception, but I rarely listen to the radio, so I did this for cosmetic purposes only. I can still pick up all the stations I listen to and it just depends where I am if I can hear the station clearly or if it comes in/out. It stands about 4" tall and I still thought those 8" antennas were still too long for my taste, so I went with the shorter one. It does what I need it to do just fine.

 

They might have used some lock tight on it to keep it from backing out... I know mine's the same way as most, it's hard enough just to keep the damn thing from falling out...
