Sitting in traffic last night and i smelt my clutch burning up, at first i thought it was the car next to me but it was my truck. i drive the truck back and forth to work and school and thats it. i dont beat on it in the slightest and ive been driving a stick for 8 years now. i got the truck in january and its got 4100 miles on it. Anyone have any similar experiences ? im bringing the truck to toyota tomorow, but i know that a clutch is considered a wear item and isnt covered under warranty. However the truck has 4100 miles and the clutch should not have gone that fast. I have noticed a shutter/chatter when i first take off in it since i got the truck but at frist i just thought it was seomthing that needed to wear in and would go away, and it did, but now its back worse then before.

    thoughts anyone ?

I almost had a similar problem, but my clutch wasn't burnt up. I think the only way to burn up a clutch is to not know how to drive it, but that's not the case cause you stated you have been driving a stick for 8 years.

You sure it's burnt and not just fvcked up? I know it sounds stupid, but I thought my clutch was burnt at first as well, but I never smelled anything.

FYI, the dealer quoted me around 600 just to tear it down. :(

It will be covered for sue. There is no way a they can't honor a claim loike that at 4K miles.

If these trucks cluctches took a dump every 4K, Toyo would be out to biz. Take it in, you prob get a lemon.

Yeah...Clutches are wearable items...but you'd have to be doing some SERIOUSLY abusive driving to burn one out in 4K miles.

If the plates are seating correctly or there is some other issue that is causing it to go more quickly- That should be covered.

yeah, thats true, just couldn't think of anything else. Has to be a lemon, maybe the clutch wasn't completely disengaging, does it feel like it rolls on itself at all?

I had the same problem with my 08 access cab. there was nothing left of the clutch and they found chucks of metal in the tranny.; so i traded up to a 08 double cab 6spd and had no problems other than the $596 month payments. but oh well . take it in and complain about it . good luck the othe truck had 8,210 miles

    Ok guys,

truck is at toyota getting looked at

service guy said he got the truck to do what i was saying it was doing and they are tearing it all apart. They think some of the pints for the tranny were out of alignment or something and causing this to happen.

and i might get the tsb done also while its there !

gave me some story about how 2 leaf pack options were available on the 09.... which i think is complete bs. but as soon as i get it back from them im going to call toyota and get a claim number.

lemon law only applies if you bring the vehicle in for 3 major issues (possibly the same issue can't remember off hand) under a given period (a year or so I think) and it's still unresolved. Check your local state law for the details.

Sucks, I can't see it going out at 4k for any reason. I used to abuse the hell out of my stock G35 coupe clutch (launched it at 3k+ all the time, 7.2k shifts, keep it in gear and use the clutch to stay neutral, ect ect). I traded it in at what... 58k on the stocker clutch. Nissan kicked toyo's arse wut?

Somewhere on one of the Toyota forums, it was posted that two different brands of clutches were put in the trucks, one good, and one bad. Sorry can't remember the manufacturer's names. Do a search and then have dealer check if your vehicle has the bad brand name. Was in a 'clutch chatter' thread.

ok so the dealer decided the clutch does need to be replaced.... as if i was lying to them about it haha

but they said its going to take at least 4 weeks to get a replacement... which i said was bullshit and they put the truck back together and gave it back to me until then.... and wouldn't give me a rental car which i was furious about

so now im driving around on a clutch that is burning itself up and has HORRIBLE clutch chatter when i let it out in either first or second gear.

im going to get on the phone with toyota tomorow beacuse this is rediculous and i shouldlnt be driving this truck the way it is. i bought a new truck so i would have a reliable vehicle, and i dont want to get stranded somewhere beacuse of something that shouldnt be wrong.

and i need to complain to toyota about the tsb also and hopefully i can work somethign out with them about that also.

so the 4 weeks of waitng for a clutch was a sham....

i called toyota and got corporate involved, parts came in 2 days after they were ordered, but the dealer decided not to call me for 2 weeks even tho the parts were sitting on the shelf

dropped the truck off yesterday to get this done, get a call this morning, telling me that my truck is all apart but they have a problem beacuse they ordered the wrong clutch, and they dont know when the new one will be in, and they will only cover the rental car that i have in the mean time for another day, which i think is total bullshit

im so fed up with this dealer, i dont get how they can operate like this and still be open.
