It's being paid out by the ins. company, but it was funded by taxpayer money initially according to you.

I will agree to your first paragraph, but your second paragraph are just opinions without facts. Sorry, my job is to find evindence and give an opinion with the evidence found. Where they forced at some point? I don't know, I just turned 40. But I know that now they are not forced on ANYONE.

This is what I have always assumed unions were like. I was finally proved correct the other day. The UAW is ridiculus. http://autos.aol.com/article/chrysler-rehires-drinking-drugging-workers/a=
I work at an Automotive plant in a right to work state. If something like this happened here you had better believe they would have all been arrested.
I just cant imagine this being the norm at work.

    By his employer.

The employer used those payments as tax rebate of sorts, per tax laws at the time.

do y'all believe government employees should be union?

    think about this:

government unions spend union money to elect politicians...who then negotiate with the union reps for compensation and benifits.

seems like a breeding ground for corruption.

Sounds like an opinion. I'll answer with another question? Should citizens have the right to drink? I mean, they are only rights, right?

BTW, not union, but I'm somewhat for it.

OH NO! You can't surf in Iowa. There are no mountains. I guess we should just nuke the place because it's a wasteland.

One guy says the place sucks so now everyone needs to share the same opinion as he. Just give it up. How about you just stay away from the midwest because apparently no one wants to come here anyway. Don't drive through it, don't fly over it, don't speak of it, don't even look at it on a map. Pretty simple.

I agree. Why is it when management wants to make more money it is greed, but when the workers want more money it is not?

sorry, but I'm not clear what your question has to do with an answer to mine.

1st part of my post was a question. 2nd part is opinion.

I'll try to frame it for you:

-tax payers pay for government employees.
    -government employees pay union dues.
    -union dues help elect politician.
-politician helps unions gain compensation & benifits.

again...I bet there is a lot of corruption at both the fed & state levels.

Not sure why opinions are being put down. Most discussions revolve around opinions. An open minded discussion of opinions would hopefully result in compromise or at least an understanding of each sides point of view.

This confirms just about every union I've ever come across. I actually thought about getting a Cherokee at one point too. I think I'll stick to foreign cars. Nothing more needs to be said.

That they are rights available to all. That is the answer. Companies can be more corrupt than anyone. Please google Enron, WorldCom, Baptist Hospital of AZ, Arthur Andersen...

It's all about who your work force is. If you are thinking that meeting obligations made earlier as part of compensation for services performed is a bad deal for your company, I would suggest a poor managerial decision was made previously.
I am in management as well only over a less educated pool I think. I see the top people looking to screw the little guy that has few options whenever they can. I am not speaking about myself, because I oversee the mechanical operations on the plant and am not seen as easy prey. we are not union. many companies have cut workers and doubled the burden of the remaining staff while not giving pay raises. All you can do is deal with it, tough market out there. we can only speak of our own situations, but I see it quite a bit in especially manufacturing.
They hire people called "consultants" who's job it is to find the "waste", but that really means who can we fire without impacting the company the most.
