Your previous post had nothing more than a rant without facts.

Obviously you know nada about diesels other than what certain special interest groups want to create bad about diesel engines to the public. Maybe that smog that sits in the valley's are from gas power vehicles/equipment, crop spray, etc. Not soot from diesel engines. Soot = unburn fuel that drops to the ground. Not linger in the atmosphere.

You probably believe in Gore's theory that the population is causing global warming, ooopps I mean climate change. With all the carbon dioxide we exhale, if you believe diesel is the cause of pollution like your post on here.

    Carry on.

Wow, that would be plenty for a tacoma! Euro 5 standards nice and clean. I didn't see anything about urea injection one way or another?

Calm down guys. All ICEs cause air quality problems. Gas and Diesels (especially) are both getting better but ultimately we are all guilty of spewing toxic shit out of the tail pipes. Start an air quality post?

It's called any Tacoma outside of the US lol. Get a Hilux with a diesel any day in Europe or pretty much anywhere.

The reason it's not possible in the US is because not too many people want it based on sales of the Tacoma with gas vs diesel, plus diesel is more expensive in most cases, which scares people who don't know diesel is better away.

I drove a diesel Hilux with a 5-speed in Bonaire and it was honestly the best mid-sized pickup I've ever driven! So much torque and power. I ended up breaking a leaf spring mount off the frame and ripping the exhaust off, but that was because I was driving it like a rally truck on some rough hard-pack dirt roads.

I wanted to put a 6 speed into my 4th gen 4Runner, but the electronics make it almost impossible! It's annoying as all hell!

That's awesome! But I'm definitely not spending $18,000+ for a diesel

I'm as big a diesel fan as there is, had a jetta tdi before my current truck and it got great fuel economy and cruised comfortably as fast as i wanted to go. I thought a diesel taco would be the ultimate truck as well. Well i drove a hilux all over Nicargua and i have to say, it's a great truck that would never do well in the US. Didn't cruise well, slow, and if you check fuelly (as i did to confirm my suspicions) doesnt get as good of fuel economy as I would expect, actually around the same as the 4 cylinder. So don't be too disappointed, if you want good FE just get a 4 and know you arent missing out on anything other than a bit more low end (but still have to downshift on mild grades). Or get the six enjoy having a ridiculous amount of power for a smallish truck and great throttle response that you'll never have with a diesel.

    this.
with the new reg's going into effect 2014/2015 Toyota will most likely improve on their current engines or come out with a more efficient gas engine...ala the Ford ecoboost.
As much as I love diesel - why would I want to:
1-pay more for the diesel option.
2-pay more to fill up at the diesel pump
3-get about the same MPG as the 2.7L 4 banger.
4-only gain about 500lbs more towing capacity.
makes no sense no matter how big of a diesel fan you are.
I could see it maybe if you live in the middle of Alaska with unimproved roads etc.
but for the masses I think its going to be a more efficient gas guzzler.

Just bought my 2013 this past saturday-

Hands down I would have bought a diesel had it been available!!! I would love to see it available in a regular cab! I actually was planning to buy a regular cab (test drove one and LOVED it!) but, when I found out I couldn't get the V-6, I moved up to an access cab and bought it. I would MUCH rather have a regular cab though (just with the V-6 or, even more so- with a diesel!!!). A diesel regular cab would be the absolute perfect truck for me!!! Too bad it's not available. :(

Also, if Taco's were available with a solid axle (kinda off topic BUT, it is an option in the poll, LOL!), there would have been no debate as to what vehicle I would have bought (was considering a 2500 Ram, or any number of older trucks), I would have gone straight to buying a Tacoma without considering anything else. Yeah, I ended up buying a Tacoma in the end but, sure wish it had a solid axle!!! (Maybe in 6 years after its paid off....)

On a totally separate note- WTF is with the electronic 4wd dial!?!?!? I damn near didn't buy my Taco for this very reason! I want a dang lever for shifting into 4wd! It's not like they don't make the t-case (look no further than an FJ-cruiser!) and it's not like there's not space for the lever! (center console could afford to drop a few cup holders- why are there 9 cup holders in a truck that really amounts to a two seater? Instead of having an actual lever, they give us an ugly round switch in the dash, what a rip!) After this truck is paid off, it's getting an FJ cruiser case with an actual lever, IDK what I'll do with the ugly hole in the dash but, oh well. Anyways, sorry for the rant on that, the discussion of drivetrain stuff got me thinking about it!

    My perfect Tacoma would be:
Regular cab, diesel, stick shift, FJ cruiser transfercase (lever!), and (like the diesel, non-US market) Land Cruiser solid axles front and rear with factory lockers. God knows what sticker price they'd put on that BUT, it should be less than $40k (they'd likely want what, about $70k like the Land Cruiser though) but, $40k would be a fair price, IHMO and I would have bought it, no questions asked, no thought of any other vehicle, on the spot!

(for those that would question a theoretical price of $40k, I came very close to buying a brand new Ram 3500 Cummins, stick shift, extended cab shortbed, 4x4, well equipped for $40k out the door, yes, different maker but, the equipment is very similar (just on a larger scale in the Dodge).
