Ive been looking around for my question to be anwsered but couldnt find one. Im looking at a Rock River AR-10, http://www.impactguns.com/rock-river-arms-308-lar-8-standard-a4-rifle-308a1288.aspx

Are the parts for the AR-15 platform interchangeable like the rails, buttstock and pistol grips ect, i understand alot arent because ones the .223 and ones a .308 but what parts are interchangeable. I like the one in the link but would wanna make it Unique to my liking with a magpul stock and grip ect but i wanna know if they will work. Anyone experience this?

Really anything that is an actually part of the rifle will not work. Maybe the rails will interchange, but the barrel nut is probably not the same. Butt Stocks will swap and maybe the receiver extension, fire control groups swap on some too.

Rails are usually different. Idk about stocks as I thought the ar10 had a larger buffer tube?

The hang up on the term mil-spec isn't necessarily a good thing. Mil-spec should be the level we strive to purchase at the very least, I agree. However there are many better than mil-spec products out there these days as well. Such as the geiselle trigger, BAD ASS ambi safeties to name a few.

Just wanted to toss that out there since this seems to be discussed a lot right now on several boards.

I agree was using the term to refer to the ability to swap in a hammer, trigger, spring etc.

All a lower does is keep parts in place. Just find one that is milspec (so all the parts fit correctly), and with the rollmark (logo) you like and you're g2g.

I actually prefer Spikes lowers because of the awesome rollmarks on them. haha

I've really haven't heard any issues with different lowers, or different lower parts kits (for the most part...)

ok, i've been doing a little googling and i can't find any catastrophic failures (or any failures) so i think it's gtg.

another question, fal'S, are they decent? my dad wants a 308 on something like the AR platform, but there isn't a standard for ar-10's are there? that's the only reason i'd recommend the FAL.
