Might try that, just don't want to risk damaging the outer TRE since I'm not replacing it.

    No luck that way either.

Maybe I should just order a pair of outer TREs as well and replace them. Then I don't have to worry about it. At least the inner TRE that I had to replace to pass inspection this year was easy.

Noticed they failed to mention the real cause. Last time I had the windshield replaced they broke the tab that secures the moulding in place and glued it down. The glue let go at the car wash last week.

Great, beat it some more with some "man strikes" and it's loose, but now the fucking nut is beat up and tight and there's no resistance to get it off, just what I was worried about. Next bright idea?

lol...that's why you never tighten down the nut so far that you expose the threads....

that said...grab the BJ with some vise grips and turn the nut off with your wrench.

 No exposed threads, but a castle nut isn't exactly solid so it's a bit buggered up after all the man striking.

And we aren't talking about a BJ here, this is the outer TRE. Nothing to grab, best I can do is barely get some needle nose pliers in there but that ain't gonna cut it.

Take off the castle nut, flip it over, thread it down till the threads are just below the nut, pound it. But seriously, if it takes damaging threads to get it out, then look to the joint puller... Mine came out relatively easy.

Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
Should have flipped the castle nut over and beat on the other side of it instead.

Hit the TRE back into the spindle. The taper should seat enough to buzz the castle nut off with an impact. Thats what usually happens to me as well. Then tap lightly and the tre will fall out again.

Tried that at first but it didn't want to threat on nicely that way. And you no see picture? I was using a puller, it didn't work. We are also talking about a 9 year old truck in the north east that has never had this removed.
