I grew up about 30 minutes from where this happened. We had a LEO that was assigned to the school. I think he was called a Resource Officer or something. I thought everyone had one, apparently not. Fairly affluent town too, no real crime to speak of.

as much as I agree with your intent, I don't know how this kind of thing could be prevented 100%. He could simply go for the cop first. this kind of thing is always going to be possible, as much as that sucks to believe.

Wonder how many teachers would volunteer to be trained and comfortable to conceal carry? Every school would probably have a few. Wouldn't stop everything, but might help mitigate or lessen situations like this.

I agree this thing could never be 100% prevented and most likely the cop would be the first target. However, if there was a cop in the building at least those people would have had someone trained and in direct contact with other law enforcement to help protect them. I also had a police officer in my school growing up who taught DARE and other prevention programs.

I agree....but I believe no school board would approve that.

I don't believe arming teachers...school security...or having personal bodyguards for each student will stop the madness...

I do believe a cultural change could make a differance.

Guns were available 50 years ago...evil has been with us since the beginning of time...why the surge in violence? Could it be the culture?

I fail to see why security needs to be heightened at every school now. These are little kids. Under normal circumstances, they are not going to be mass murdering people. This shooting was most likely related to the mother who happened to work at a school with children. If she worked at a manufacturing plant, he would have walked in the back door and shot a bunch of older people, or people at a restaurant, kohls, movie theater, etc. You can't put officers at every place where people are capable of shooting mass amounts of people.

Lack of religion, video games, shitty parenting, to much codling (as in there are no losers anymore, everyone gets a trophy), lack of discipline take your pick.
    Just my opinion though.

News stated he killed both mother and father at their home. So sad! My heart goes out to all the parents of the children that died, also the poor children that endored this trama. Lets not forget the adults that were killed also.

I totally agree with you. BUT until we figure out how to fix/change our culture. Creating a few more jobs by having LEO in school buildings seems like a good place to start. I understand that this is a very reactionary position to take, but for goodness sake at this moment those poor kids are still laying dead in there classrooms and the families are stuck suffering in a fire house.

It looks like he killed his mother with the gun she bought for him because he had a history of mental illness so he could not buy one. unless she bought herself a BushMaster AR-15. unlikely tho.

    Too many to list now.
We can always buy more fire trucks and police cars, but I think a better use of this effort would be put toward prevention. I'd rather have the LEO in the school with nothing to do than busily shooting intruders.
