Colin, I call BS on your $256. I just looked at the train and the cheapest I could find was ~$700 for 2 of us in coach + the truck.

Show me the secret already.

 

You looking at northbound or southbound? $700 sounds right for southbound at this time of the year. I'm northbound. I can forward you my confirmation email if you want to look at the price breakdown. I also booked months ago. Not sure if that makes a difference.

 

Also dependant on date of travel. They probably gouge you right before Christmas and right after newyears.

 

Oooh, I also have a AAA discount. Definitely wasn't $700 beforehand though.

 

Did you book through AAA, or can you use it online during checkout. I'll have to look, it was going north, I checked south too, seemed booked as well. But this was for early January...maybe that's the reason.

 

nm, just saw where you can use it online...only $50 discount. Still puts me at $510, even out to April. Going to try some other combinations during the week to see if it's cheaper.

just my $.02, i drove to philly and back, and roughly calculate bout $350 in gas both ways, of course u save on the miles, but 900 miles even at 17 mpg (u 4x4's suck) is still under $200 in gas 1 way.

I drive back and forth to NY at least once a year...it's not so much about saving $$ on gas, or hell, even trying to match it. It's about doing something else than sitting at the wheel for 900 of those miles. That's worth something to me, but idk if its worth $500+ each way. Hell to get my own little room on the train I'm look at $1100....If I could get the little room for $1100 round trip, count me in...until then, i95 here I come.

The seats really aren't bad. Nothing even remotely close to airplane seats.

I can sleep absolutely anywhere, but I genuinely think most people can get a good nights sleep in these. They mean way back, then a lazy boy style foot rest swings out, and then another foot rest swings down off of the chair in front of you. There's a good 2-3 feet between your chair and the one in front of you.
