It is actually a PITA as we have requirements for how many suppliers from variouscountrys we are allowed (both max and mins), so, for example, if there is a supplierfrom Britain that makes a very high quality component we need, if we havealready crossed the quota from Britain, we cannot use that supplier, even ifthe component is perfect.

    exactly my point

I just find it interesting how the technology gets distributed to other countries
    like Italy and Japan and...turkey?
    and the netherlands?

The idea was to build so many and they would be purchased by so many other countries that it would help control cost. But that did't happen and more and more countries are backing out. Australia I think is one of them.

Turkey will always get our technology due to their location. They let us put nukes there in teh coldwar, we will always have an air base there. It makes sense.

The Hornets they have are rather old (F/A-18A+ IIRC) and have racked up a considerable amount of flight time. Like most everything else, there is a "Use By" date on them. I believe there was a program to extend the CF-18 to 12,000 flight hours, since they don't have the added stress of carrier ops on them. Ours are on an 8,000 hour life span, with additional limits for arrested landings.

I guess the Marines are starting their 1st squardon in MCAS Yuma for the F-35.

    http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/11/1...eneration-strike-fighter-jet/?test=latestnews

On a side note about 2 yrs ago, our construction company bid a hanger for the F-35 in NC for the MC. The bid date got pushed back and we put it on the shelf. I have no idea if that ever got the green light or not. I still like the AV8B better. Jet just looks mean.

VMFA-121 was my first Squadron. They have an amazing and prestigious history. It only seams fitting that they be the first to step forward into the future with this amazing aircraft. This squadron seems to always be the tip of the spear when it comes to the Airwing.

Canada officially cancelled their order for the F-35. Waiting for other countries to follow. The cost will just go up.
