I hear ya, I don't even have kids and I really had trouble focusing at work all afternoon. I had heard there was a reported shooting but didn't think it was nothing of this magnitude til I got back from lunch and checked in on it and was shocked to see the headline of how many were killed. You almost get numb to hearing these stories so often, til it's kindergarten students. Breaks your heart. I can't recall ever being in such a somber mood like I've felt all day.

Guns were in his mom's name.

Sure was an emotional day having a 2yr old I feel bad for her because I hugged her every 5 min since I got home from work. Can't watch the news or go on twitter it's all just nonsense today. Three types of people disgust me in this world: those that carry out these crimes, the media that makes them famous, and the fake charities that are being made up as you read this.

Be safe everyone and love your families

This is absolutely, mind-numbingly sick. What kind of man- indeed, what kind of grown human being, could shoot and kill one child, let alone nineteen other kids and eight adults? What kind of freak (for their is no nicer word for someone who would do this) kills innocent children? They had their whole lives ahead of them! They never got the chance to truly live! I hope this motherf*cker burns in Hell for eternity! I can't describe what I would do to him if her were still alive and I got my hands on him.
I feel so terrible for those who were lost today, and for their families who are undoubtedly at this moment, reeling with uncontrollable grief. My heart goes out to them all, as do my deepest and utmost prayers. It is unthinkable to lose a young child, even more so to lose said child at the hands of a gun-toting psychopath. May those slain rest in eternal peace.

Sure, I'll toss in my two cents. Don't think many will agree with me, but that's ok.

When we lower the barriers to accessing mental health care and leave behind the stigma regarding mental health issues- and treat them like the medical problems they are- perhaps then we can avoid further tragedy. I'm in no way defending the perpetrator's actions, because there's no defense for them. But mental health issues aren't just the burden of the individual. As events like this prove, mental health issues affect us all in some way. My thoughts are with the families of the victims, but they are also with the family of the perpetrator. Our medical and social systems failed him, and as a result failed his victims. I'm not saying he's not responsible for his actions, but this is a societal problem.

I do agree. Unfortunately it seems so often it seems like these people don't get any serious attention until its too late and something like this happens. Yet more times than not it comes out that they had some sort of ongoing mental issue. I still can't comprehend regardless of what problems you have how you can resort to murdering children but its obvious time and time again warning signs are going ignored.

I can't comprehend it either. Here's what I can say: I have struggled with depression for years, only recently did I finally go to the doctor and get on an anti-depressant. I've learned the brain is a chemical machine, and if the chemicals are out of whack your thought processes are going to be out of whack. It's hard for me to comprehend being as out of whack as this young man was, but he clearly had issues that make mild depression look like child's play. The problem in comprehending it is that we view this from a reasonably normal and logical point, but logic has nothing to do with what was happening in his brain.

I am going to go off on a little rant here, so bare with me.

I am so sick of all this "We need more gun control"..."Its the guns" bullshit. First off, there is reason that the saying out there of "guns dont kill people, people do", because its a fact. 99% (not sure if thats a real percentage just seems that way) of the these mass shootings is by mentally ill individuals.
With that said, why dont we examine the real problem, which is mental health and cultural issues.
Heres an idea, why dont we lock up anyone that exhibits mental issues. Your kid gets caught pulling wings off flies, injuring animals, bullying others he/she gets taken away and locked up. I'll tell you why, because they have rights, the liberals and equal rights hacks would be aghast if that happened.

So why is it that they are so willing to take away my rights to save others rights?

Instead, we should be focusing on the issue at hand, culture and mental health. Most of you younger guys may not know this, but when us older guys were kids this shit didnt happen. The problem started when video games, lack of religion, both parents working, the "there are no losers here", everyone getting everything handed to them, everyone is equal and deserves the same respect, dont talk about god in school, teachers cant reprimand kids. This has to stop, our country has fallen horribly in the last 25 years and its got to stop. This is the problem that needs to be addressed, not guns.
There are millions of americans that own guns, the legal owners are not the problem. I looked at twitter, facebook, name it, everyone is screaming gun control is a bandaid fix and it will NOT be the cure. The only thing that will happen with more "gun control" is divide a nation further than it already is.

    Sorry for the rant.

Why are there so many multi victim shootings in the US compared to the rest of the industrialized world ?

I don not disagree. It is my generation, which is a generalization in itself. Not everyone from my generation is to blame though. Some of us actually believe that the way we were raised was in years way gone actually contributed to a healthier society.

I believe this is a factor in a lot of the bizzare behavior that we are seeing in this country. Having known a few people on such meds, I'd say two out of three do things that make me nervous. It's evil stuff.

There is no test for depression, they can't draw blood and confirm you have it. You just say "I feel tired and have no energy". Next thing you know, you've got yourself a prescription. The side effects of the drugs are a mirror image of the symptoms of depression itself. The doctors just keep trying different ones till the patient decides they feel better.

I've literally watched someone become numb to the world and cease to see how their actions were affecting everyone else around them. Thankfully no violence, but definitely detatched and did not give a shit what was happening around them. The drugs are a way of avoiding dealing with their problems. Counseling should be a requirement when drugs are being considered.

I don't know what the answer is, but antidepressants need to be looked at very closely. Trouble is, there is a lot of money in them. Mainstream media isn't about to slam Big Pharma.
