Glovebox problem

Last night I got into my truck and opened up my glovebox to get my garage door opener out and instead of going down slowly like it should, it just dropped. I noticed one peice in the shape of a plastic tube looking thing was moving around.

Any idea of what this is and how to fix it?

 

its the damper just pop it back into the snap

 

There is a piston over on the far passenger side of the glove boxe....Go in and make sure it's connected to both pins. They pop off pretty easy.

 

take the top hole on the damper and snap it into the snap(?) on the dash

 

I looked in there and I could only see one pin, but ill go take a second look. Thanks

same problem here. I was able to pop it back on the pins...but since they are just plastic once I open and close the glove box a few times it just pops off again. havent found a solid fix yet.

 

I have the same problem. I've put it back on a number of times but it just won't stay. I gave up... my glovebox bangs open every time now. Oh well.

There should be a peg on the dashboard the plunger hooks onto, and a peg on the glove box that the extending arm of the plunger connects to. If the plunger body keeps falling off the peg on the dashboard, take something like a small piece of paper or cardboard and fold it into a very small rectangular piece. Lodge it into the peg where the slit is . Chances are the peg doesn't expand enough to hold the plunger in place. It's a crappy design. Some people have used a screw in the peg, I use an eraser from a mechanical pencil. Mine doesn't fall off anymore.

I found the easiest way to reconnect everything is to hook the bottom eyelet on the plunger body to the peg on the dash board, pull the pluger arm down, it comes out quite a bit. I then move the glove box halfway closed and connect the plenger arm to the peg on the glovebox, and voila....all good. It's hard without pictures to show all of this.

 

if you have any friends w/taco's, look at how the "shock/plunger/damper" is installed, i dropped my glove box to do some work, and if i didn't pay close attention to how it went in, no way would i have figured it out, it's weird.. a minor fix, just need to figure it out.. good luck

The peg goes in the second hole on the plunger. The peg on mine was really worn out from taking the glove compartment off a million times (love those mods) so I took it to the dealer and told them to fix it since it is still under warranty. Now I have a new piece that actually matches the color better.

 

Alright I tried to fix it but was having trouble. Im just gonna look at my dads when he gets home and go from there

This is a bad piece of engineering IMO..... Mine no longer works correctly either.

It's not that heavy. Just use those thing coming out of your shoulders to let it down slowly.
