Agree with you. I was just reacting, like most of us. I do have personal experience with people who I know have switched from one anti depressant to another, and literally changed for the worse right in front of me. The scary thing is, they could not see it. Everyone else could. I can easily see someone with violent thoughts choosing to act them out, as a result of a chemical change resulting from a drug that numbs them into feeling nothing.

Ok, all. please understand, this is what i do for a living. I work corrections at the highest-level mental-health facility in our state. no assumptions/guesses of the havoc one with acute mental health issues can wreak. I am beyond grief when comprehending the pain a parent can endure when attempting to understand the murder of one's child. the propagation of our coveted 2nd amendment is the fodder of many a u.s. citizen, through the internet (including TW), which allows, even promotes, adherence to the ownership of firearms, at times, seemingly for folly. It is too late for gun control here in the U.S., there are simply too many firearms, and individuals, willing to utilize them in the destruction of others in the avenue of mayhem/murder of, in this case, children.

In part it's the culture, we are, in short a violent warlike society, this country was founded in violence and expanded with genocide. History is written by the victors, that Mitchell slaughtered hundreds of thousands of people in firestorms in Japan, had we lost the war, he would have been tried and hung, not praised as a hero. That this country is responsible for more civilian deaths via direct or indirect military action than every other country on the planet combined since WWII. This is no accident. That we bring death from above from a trailer in Las Vegas, who cares if a few innocent Yemenis or Pakistanis get killed in the process, those are Mud People. Every day our Commander in Chief gets to kill people, he OK's drone strikes personally. Our body counts and kill ratios are like nothing the planet has ever seen. And I'll tell you what Pete, we are damn proud of this fact.
I guess you would have to spend some time down here to soak up this culture, Rome never had it this good and it certainly didn't have a huge military to back up her threats. My understanding is there is generally less violence in the media, movies and TV up there. From birth we are bombarded with violent images, all day, every day. 80% of the popular TV shows feature gunplay as a normal part of the program. Is it like that up there?

I agree with basically everything you said. It is sometimes folly.
You simply cannot disarm this society, it's too entrenched. Like the other thread asking whether you would give up your guns. It's a stupid question because it is never going to happen, not here. This government knows it would have an armed insurrection on it's hands if it tried to do that.


I got a question for you Pete and the rest of the Canadians, this pertains to what I have been thinking all day about this, chiefly, this is not a gun issue, (except in an indirect way), this is a mental health issue primarily. My question is, when someone wants to get mental health help, what kinds of inpatient/outpatient services are available, at what cost, depending of the severity, how soon can these services be obtained, do you have a mechanism like our 5150 legal hold, and lastly, how intensive can this therapy be if need be?

Someone posted something about it's harder to go after the real cause of this.

I agree 100%, since we were kids, we have been the "heros"of the world. Look what we did in WWII, then we tried to do the same thing in Korea, Vietnam. We always strive to "bail" out the "oppressed" but at what cost to us as a people. Once your the badest ass on the block how do you back off that? Answer is you cant, so we give billions away in foriegn "aid" but what we are really trying to do is buy our allies, this will never work. It needs to be earned, which is why England will always be our allies, we actually helped them.
I am a victim of this as well, I fought for my country and I believe and know that I was trying to do right, but the politics behind what I fought for were wrong. I spent 4 years of my life in south America and the Caribbean fighting for something that at the time I had no idea about, after over 20 years, what did I do? Nothing, drugs are still flowing, the border war with cartels has gotten HORRENDOUS. Why did my friends die? We accomplished nothing. Politics is to blame people, half truths, thats what they feed on, one thing is said, but another agenda is meant.

 

Gun control is an issue because that feeds the media frenzy, political gains and most important, control over a population. Take away the one thing the politicians fear? That will take away their power? Please! They cant have that. Look at the numbers, do you really think the gun control issue and control of the public is about the people? It never has been, its about self preservation. If the people in power were reduced to the standard everyone else is then they are equal, yet the equality isnt there is it?

Fair, our govt is not about fair, they dont CARE about the population, they CARE about keeping their seats. Those poor kids? They dont CARE, the American puppets that scream for gun control? Hmmm.....I'm not really sure what to do here. This is a thread for the victims of a tragedy...Not for arguing what caused it or pontificating about gun control, mental health, or politics....so lets knock off the divisive BS and keep in mind the poor families, nationwide, that have a long long road ahead of them.

No doubt the NRA will come out and say the solution is to arm the kids, but I think it is time to at least look at tighter controls on handguns and military grade assault rifles. It's one thing to have the right to bear arms its another to have this type of unfettered gun violence cropping up all the time. My heart goes out to the victims and their families, lets hope government finally does the right thing.

How and when do you go back to school after this? From a parents, teachers, or child's point of view I can't even fathom going back to the same classroom that children were just murdered in.

 

I told my wife...

If I had the financial resourses, I would offer it to the school board in an effort to build a new school on a new site...

and raise the school building of this mass murder tradgedy and replace with a perminate memorial to the victims.

 

It's photoshopped, I'm assuming. 4Chan does that to all these catastrophe's including the Aurora theater shooting and the recent mall shooting. They are trying to call attention upon themselves.
