Connecticut school shooting 12/14/12

I don't think gun control is the solution. This same thing happened at a school in China yesterday. 22 kids died. The only difference was the guy did it with a knife and instead of a gun. Guns aren't the problem. The problem is society. This society is full of hate an anger. My generation is uneducted, unparented, and has no moral compass.

I believe you miss the point. The "religion" posts were made in a general sense. What many mean is the teaching of peace...hope...kindness...good will toward neighbors...the value of human life...that many including Jesus Christ, Martin Luther King...and others ministered.

Once God was removed from the public schools...and the culture continues to remove God from the public square...judgement goes away along with it. By Design.

The removal of judgement and good conscience is replaced with selfishness and a sense of entitlement.

I am in no way saying that public school kids should be taught to be good little alter boys. I am saying, teaching kids that there is something bigger than themselves and teaching them respect for human life...may be a good start.

This can be accomplished in school...in church...on the ball field...at home by parents...And, having a father in the home also goes a long way to help young minds grow properly.

When you plan to kill yourself after doing the crime, there is no fear of judgement from our society and it's judicial system. That leaves only fear of your god, if you have one. Barring that, there is no fear of repercussions. The only way this kind of thing goes away is to stop the mental illnesses. It is probably more realistic to have armed security in the schools. Possibly arming the teachers as well. He went to the office first. He only had handguns. What if the victims in the office had been carrying? We might only have one victim, or possibly none. We might be holding this guy responsible in court right now.

hard to say....we already place a load of responsibility with our teachers and look what happens....we have teachers who end up being child predators.... its a tough situation...

 

No school district anywhere is going to advocate much less approve the arming of teachers so why don't we just dispose with that thinking, as for armed security guards, there are already cops in schools in troubled areas so there is precedent for that.

 

There are police and/or security in almost every public school I can think of.

And you are exactly right on the arming of teachers. We're not the first ones to think of this concept. Long ago, the decision was made that it was entirely too cost-prohibitive from a training and insurance standpoint to arm faculty.

I'm not sure how we went down this path, but it's pretty sad that folks are, in slightly more than a day, trying to spin this and point fingers...

 

Beleive I got it all. This is not about the right, the left, abortion, judgement, and any other agendas.

This kid had a kind of high-functioning autism, this incident has nothing at all to do with gun rights, the moral degradation of society or the concept of evil, it is a mental health issue. That no one managed to reach this kid before he went off the reservation is a tragedy in and of itself. Had he said any of his intentions in front of a doctor, he would have been declared on a psych hold, no doubt about it.
