My '05 developed a rattle and it was one of the 4 bolts that hold the bed down... Simple tighten up (need special socket)... problem solved!

I just don't see now those bolts could loosen. Mine looked loose but I had to use a 3' extension to remove it. If I had just tightened it instead of inserting that rubber spacer I mentioned, the bed would be twisted, which is visible from behind the truck (anyone following me could plainly see the bed wasn't level with the cab back window).

If I wanted that I woulda bought a Ford.

Thanks y'all. I had this same issue after driving through some heavy brush this weekend. I thought I might have knocked something vital loose, but it was just the spare tire. I feel a little silly for not checking that until after reading this post...

My leaf springs are extremely squeaky and the front end is noticeably lower than when I bought the truck. I hope to be installing a full OME lift soon.

It is the leaf springs. I have a 2011 Taco that does the same thing. The service tech told me it was the leaf springs.

I figured this is my problem too.
I have a 2013, I just changed my leafs to Deavers so they need to get broken in.

My 2010 TRD Short Bed Double Cab with 8k miles has the same rattles - although I sometimes get the feeling it comes from which ever wheel is currently hitting the pot hole (ie: even the front). Is there any sort of test to confirm the shocks are all working per spec?

I have yet to check the bolts in the bed. I have crawled underneath to see if the spare is loose (it isn't) but I haven't tried actually dropping the spare and re-attaching it.

Regarding the leaf springs - How can I determine that they are the root cause and what piece of them would be rattling ?

    Thanks,
    -PH

Check the bed bolts. That was the cause of my rattle.

Guys, regarding this rattle under or in the bed. I think the bed bolts bottom out and area below bed wears out so this then requires a washer. I can see a gap when lifting the bed.

I replaced both leaf springs, shocks, bumper 2x, removed the bed and campertop, and fender flares. Noise still there and i considered replacing axle bearings at the hub. I will install 3/8" rubber washers below bed.

    Team,

My 2014 DCSB Baja was rattling over bumps. It sounded like a plate of metal rattling against another plate of metal. Turns out it was the beadlock plate rattling against the rim (I have the TRD wheels). I wish I could say it didn't take me a month and hours of googling and crawling under the truck to find the solution that was right in my face as I checked brakes, heat shields, suspension, etc... lol.

My only consolation is I took it to the shop for something else and asked them to look into the rattle - they didn't find the cause either.

I haven't seen the beadlock plate mentioned in any of the rattle threads, so wanted to post about it.

I hate random rattles. I have a new one, too, from all the offroading.

Mine sounds almost like metal taping metal, or like the entire rear window rattling on occasion, like when braking or hitting bumps.

Sounds like this is inside the truck, in the back right side.. like the rear window. I've checked behind and under all the seats, the trim, door panels. I'm losing my mind.

My OCD is winning. Ughhhh. Ideas????

1 check the bed bolts. one came loose on mine in the first 20k, had the dealer tighten it up under warranty right before it ran out. a few months later the rattle was back. guess they tightened it too much and messed the holl it went through in the bed up a bit. but because they had done it they ended up putting in whole new inner bed for free. sweet deal since the truck was out of warrenty by then.

2 check your exhaust. on my 2012 there is a section where if you hit a big bump part of the piping will move up. aka one of the rubber hangers will flex, then snap back and pull the pipe up too high and it then rattles like a mother on the metal it is hitting. when the exhaust is cool, just grab onto it and yank stright down. will pop the exhaust into place no more rattle

    good luck

My 2016 DCSB off road recently started rattling from the rear. Same as all of you, it sounds like metal plates quickly banging together. Check the u-bolts and leaf springs yesterday and they seemed good which lead me here. I guess I'll take a look at the bed bolts and the cap on my TRD wheels.
