My first post on Tacoma World!

This is my first truck and first 4X4. I just bought a 2003 Tacoma, V6, 4WD, Access Cab. I have a 2003 Honda Civic that will be my daily driver. The truck will be for when I need a truck to be a truck (rare for me) and for road trips. I do a fair amount of backpacking and mountain biking and some rock climbing. I wanted something I could sleep in the back of at trail heads and haul scuba gear for me and 3 others rather than taking 2 cars.

I picked up a used Snug Top Hi Liner camper shell a few days after I bought he truck. I'm planning on putting a sleeping platform in the shell. I'm also going to use the platform for putting scuba gear on top and tanks down below.

After that I'm not sure what my next mod will be. Down the road I'd like to install a second battery with an inverter, more lights, maybe off road bumpers and maybe a small lift. We'll see how it works out stock.

First, I didn't think to test the 4wd when I test drove it. It doesn't work. I did a lot of reading on the forums and decided this is beyond my mechanical ability and took it to a shop.

I can't wait to get it back and take if for some mild off roading. There's a class at Hollister OHV park in the spring for off road driving that I want to take it on. Also, it's first road trip will be from San Jose, CA to Joshua Tree NP just after Christmas.

I can't wait to go on a trip with it. I've been searching for this truck for a long time.

Thanks! I live in the SF Bay area. I was born in New Jersey, Grew up in PA just north of PHilly but have lived in a bunch of places around the US.

I got the front wheel drive system working. I had to have a shop replace the actuator. I upgraded the shocks to Bilstien 5100 with 2.5 inches of lift. I also did an add a leaf to the back. The stock springs should probably be replaced but this will do for now. For $92 for the AAL it's great for now. I did these myself. I still need to get an alignment done. The truck isn't my daily driver so there's no rush.

I also finished the sleeping platform and went on a road trip to Joshua Tree National Park. We spent 5 nights in it. It's very cozy.

The only other mods I've done is to stuff an ear plug into the door lock beeper to mute it and order the union and other parts for the diff breather extension. I think that's all the mods I'm doing for awhile. I'm due for a new mountain bike and that'll set me back a load of cash.

I was just trying to remember my first TW post and tracked it down.

5 Years, 2631 posts later and 92,000 miles on my truck since I got it. I've driven it cross country twice, to Baja MX three times, to 15 states (including BC & BCS in Baja). Not bad so far.
