Fog Light Mod 2013

Nope, and I don't forsee any. Relays only pull about 0.2A so I'm not worried about putting a fuse on it.

 

Finally someone who gets it. Unlike all the guys putting 10-20 amp inline fuse in. One guy even posted a math equation to figure out his 15 amp fuse.


How do u know that's the relay for the 12 volt sockets?? one of those is an evap relay as well...

 

Because the box says AC SKT on it The blue one in the middle is the evap bullshit.

Edit: As pointed out below, I interpreted the label wrong, it's the "AC" inverter relay. Still won't affect the function of the truck.

This relay is for the 115 power converter on the TRD models.. Yet you should be fine doing it there.. Its not for the 12v outlets as that relay is inside the drivers fuse panel inside.. I know this because I'm regretting doing the 12 Volt all time mod on my 2013 tacoma

 

And thanks by the way because I was about to run the wire over to the main fuse box for this mod

 

Ah you're right, for some reason I was thinking it meant acc socket. Just double checked and it is the "ac" inverter socket. Makes sense. Glad I saved you from the pain in the ass running that wire!

 

I decided to go different route.. i still used the relay method but got the power from the parking lights just behind the light itself (green wire).. i then ran the wire into the lower relay box and went through the underside and connected it through a small hole there and onto the relay.. i decided not to fuse the wire since the lights are fused anyways..hope yall like.. it still turns on when i want just have to have parking lights on or above and turns off with the truck.. this was on a 2013 without the heated seats option.

Matt, did you splice into the green wire with a connector or stuff the wire into the original socket where the green wire connects into the plug? Any pictures of that spot would be great. This is the route I want to take as I want the fogs controlled by the light switch at the parking stage and then allow them on with hi-beams.

I just unpkugged the harness and pulled back about 8 inches of the plastic wire protector and did a weatherproof quick splice there on the green wire.. after that just ran my wire from there to the relay and put on some of the plastic wire protection on that one and then reinstalled the original one back on the wire harness.. i only went back far enough on the wire harness to give me some play room just incase something does ever happen, i have wire to work with.. after new wire and plastic were reinstalled i then electrical taped the ends of the plastic wrap and called it a day.. i did end up changing only one part of the hook up and that was i reworked the connection at the relay and put shink tubbing just for added protection at the relay..

 

And if you look at the first pic i uploaded should be able to see the T in the wire i should have put arrows or something sorry about that

azchris stupid question,if i'm running my fog lights and have the all time 400 watt inverter on and running something out of my outlet at the same time,any concerns about overheating or pulling to much juice if you know what i mean?

 

I would say you shouldnt have a problem but it would all depend on what you running on your inverter..i would think toyota designed it to work with lights on and be fine so nly thing you need to think about is what your pulling from the inverter.. i think its all computer controlled anyways so if your pulling to much it will shut down.. just my two cents..

Also in my old truck i ran a 600 watt from power putlet without any problems.. but only did small things like computer and portable cooler..this truck wasnt even designed for an inverter..

I've been running it with the wire going over to the main box but this is neater looking for wandering eyes,if you get my drift.

 

So I just installed my new OEM (Valeo) branded fog lights tonight that came in the mail today. I had already installed the factory switch that i bought at the dealer on Monday. Ordered the Denso relay off ebay, but it's not here yet. Of course I didn't want to wait another day to power up my fogs so I kindly borrowed the relay from the air pump heater switch which sits right next to the fog light location. Bad idea? Seems fine. Of course it's only temporary till the relay gets here.

 

That one's not the best idea, I bet the fog lights could pull up to 6A and I'm not sure how much overhead they put into that relay. The worse that could happen is you blow a fuse or relay, which is only a couple bucks. It'll probably be fine for a couple days.

Edit: Wait, you just MOVED the relay? That would be fine. I was thinking about taking mine out to see if disabling the air pump throws a CEL.

 

Yeah, it threw a cel. The check engine light came on but I'd rather have the fogs on for a day or two and see that light, especially since there is a crap load of fog. Intemittent wipers up next. It won't stop raining and that fast/ super fast is driving me crazy!
